*Dark Mirrors*

Look into the mirror in a dark room,

if your courage does not fail you.

You truly cannot see yourself

under the layers of lightless obscurity.

There is only the faintest outline

that separates your image

from the shadows around you.

Your face is a surfaceless hollow,

and your inner soul is exposed.

But who can tell exactly

what is being reflected?

Does it move as you stand still,

catching your breath

in a frozen specter's grip?

Perhaps it truly does peer up at you,

beyond the looking-glass.

and your shadow takes on a life of its own.
