Ch. 1 - Home Again

* Yeah, I really hope this picks up sometime during the chapter. Anyways, I really wanna update Back to School since it's been like what? Two weeks at least. But, I'm having trouble coming up with an idea for what to do next. That, plus I have band starting up tomorrow so I'll have even less time to think about it. Well, enjoy what I can get up and I hope to update a bit more soon.

"Hiro, are you awake?" Hiro sat up on his bed and walked over to the door, smirking out at the doctor.

"Good afternoon doctor, I presume you're here for another conference?" The doctor shook his head as he checked the paper on his clipboard again.

"Actually Hiro, I'm here to tell you that you're leaving today." Hiro raised an eyebrow.

"Really? What's the catch?"

"No catch, you're free to go. You've been here two years and we here are convinced that you are mentally stable. Of course, if you would like to stay longer, that's fine too."

"No thanks, I'm ready to go. I need to finish with my education. Where are my parents? Still rotting in that hellhole they call home I expect?" The doctor looked over the papers he carried.

"No, you're parents moved away a year ago. It looks like you're on your own Hiro. Sorry." He shrugged, the doctor opened the door and handed him his clothes he had come in wearing, plus a black coat. Hiro nodded and quickly changed into them.

"It doesn't really bother me. I hated them and they hated me, I was about to move out anyway." The doctor sighed.

"Yes, sadly, I have plenty of evidence to back you up on that. Your mother spoke to us, she will continue to pay on the house so you can stay there." He stifled a laugh.

"That's a first, mom actually doing as she promised for once." They walked down a short hall and Hiro was allowed to retrieve his CD player. It had been gathering two years worth of dust, and he was ready to listen to some decent music again. He placed the headphones over his ears and turned the CD player on. The first song that came on was "Open Your Eyes."

"If we're all done here, I'll be leaving now." The doctor nodded and watched as Hiro made his way to the exit.

Hiro dropped the headphones onto his neck as he looked around his old neighborhood. For the most part, the place was the same as he had left it.

"Two years and it's the same old dump. I wonder if Raven and Gekko are still around." The two had been a constant thought for him. Most of his time in the center had been in his room. He had split the time between exercising and thinking about them, along with the occasional breaks to think about what the doctors had shown him. During all of his discussions with the doctors he was taped. On a few of those occasions they had shown him the surfacing of the "other" as they had called it. Jin was nothing like him, and the being had a nasty temper. Once, he had even stabbed the doctor with his own pen. He had then been severely beaten into submission, seeing as how that was the only way the doctors could detain him. The doc had assured him that Jin was gone; but he still had his doubts. If he did lose it again, who would stop him from doing something he'd regret?

"Hiro?" His eyes moved to the left and he caught somebody heading his way out of the corner of his eye. A smile tugged at his mouth as he turned to look at the young woman. Raven tried to control herself, but lost in the end. She ran forward and tackled him in a huge hug, smiling and laughing.

"Hey Raven, how you been?" Raven frowned and slammed a fist into his gut. He winced and looked at her in bewilderment.

"Next time you decide to take off like that tell me jerk!" She smiled again.

"Aside from that, I've been fine. I started college last year, and Gekko starts this year." He raised an eyebrow.

"Gekko's still around here too?" She nodded.

"Me and him just got back. We spent the night dancing our asses off at some party." He rolled his eyes and placed the headphones back on his ears.

"Why does that not surprise me?" She growled and pulled the headphones off his ears.

"Hiro! You know I hate it when you do that!" He smiled and closed his eyes, lowering his head slightly.

"Sorry, two years is a long time and people do forget things." She crossed her arms.

"Where have you been anyway? Nobody has seen you all this time. And your parents packed up and left before I could ask them." Hiro scratched the back of his head.

"It's kind of a long story and I don't really want to mess with it right now. Maybe later." She nodded and yawned.

"That's cool, how about me and Gekko drop by your place tomorrow? You can fill us in and we'll catch you up. Sound good to you?" Hiro shrugged.

"Not like I have anything better to do. I'll catch you later Raven." She smirked and gave him a quick hug.

"I'm glad you're back!" She called as she ran down the street. Hiro smirked at her before he continued back to his home. It was an hour walk from the center and he still had a good half hour ahead of him. Right now, Hiro just wanted to get home and crash for a few hours in a real bed.

For two hours, Hiro sifted through packed boxes that his parents had left behind for him, finally coming across what he had been looking for. He pulled the speakers out of their box and hooked them up to the stereo he had unpacked earlier. As soon as it was all setup, Hiro placed one of his mixed CDs into it and turned it up as he put on "Suicide Solution." Most of the boxes were full of things they knew he had no use for; footballs, cards, and other useless items like that. The stereo had probably been a mistake, he doubted they would intentionally leave him anything worth as much as his dad's stereo system.

"Oh well, mine now. And I've got a paper saying so if they want to try and get it back." He chuckled and took a seat on the small couch.

"Hey!" Hiro growled as whoever it was at the door began knocking fiercely.

"Turn that shit down!" He growled again as he walked over to the door and yanked it open with as much force as he could.

"If you don't like it, too bad! Invest in some earplugs." He began to slam the door, but the man caught it with one palm.

"I don't think so, either you turn it down or I call the cops." Hiro frowned slightly, thinking it over for a moment before he closed his eyes. He smirked as he opened them again.

"Go ahead and call them, see what I do to you." His arm shot out and he grabbed the neck of the man's shirt.

"Aren't you curious? Wouldn't you like to find out?" The man shook his head vigorously and broke free of his grasp. The man fell backwards onto the cement porch and scrambled away. Hiro grimaced, clutching his head before he looked at the man.

"What the hell?"

"I'm calling the cops!" Hiro looked up in time to see the man run into the neighboring house and slam the door behind him.

"Perfect. I didn't do anything!" The door slid shut and Hiro turned down the music before taking a seat on the couch again.

"Please officer, I don't want to go back there! Can't you let it slide just this once?" Hiro was pleading with the cop. If the center found out about this, he'd be back in his cell in the blink of an eye. After three long minutes, the officer finally responded.

"Alright kid, but I don't want it happening again. I understand that you kids these days love your music, but you have to respect other people's rights as well. You can get off with a warning, but I don't want to hear anymore about this in the future." He nodded.

"Not a problem officer. Thank you." The officer shook his head slightly as he turned and left. Hiro sighed with relief, closing the door and sliding to the ground as it shut.

"Not a good way to start things off. I knew they weren't right. Jin . . ." He growled and looked at the floor. If Jin was still around, there was nothing he'd be able to do. All he could do was hope.

"Hey Hiro, still listening to that old crap I see." Gekko commented as he pulled the headset off Hiro's head and placed it on his own.

"Bad to the Bone happens to be one of my all-time favorites." He gave them back to Hiro.

"I know, so how have you been? It's been a while since we talked."

"I've been better. I got thrown into a mental institution for two years." Before either of them could ask questions, he ran through the whole story. It ended with what had happened yesterday with his neighbor. As Raven began to speak he picked up a pen from the coffee table beside the sofa.

"No way, so you think you've still got this split personality inside you?" He raised the pin and watched it drop to the tiled floor.

"Yep, you think I'm crazy?"

"Hiro, everybody's crazy in some form or fashion. Even if you were, do you think it would affect our friendship?" Hiro shrugged in response and Raven shook her head.

"Not a chance."

"That's not what I'm worried about. What worries me is that there's still the slim chance I could snap on you guys. I've seen this Jin guy in action, he's violent. I don't want to hurt either of you." Gekko slapped him in the back.

"Don't be crazy Hiro. You'd never hurt a fly." Hiro glared at him.

"Have you been listening to any of this story moron?" Gekko laughed at him.

"Sure, but I don't think you'd seriously hurt either of us." Hiro shrugged.

"Who knows? Maybe you're right and I'm just worrying over nothing." Gekko smiled.

"Of course I'm right! Come on, let's go out and grab some food, my treat."

"Why did I ever agree to this place, it's expensive!" Raven smirked and ran a hand through her hair before taking a sip of her drink.

"That's what you get for saying it was your treat. Maybe next time you'll wise up and just suggest it." Gekko sighed and pulled the money out of his wallet. Hiro was sitting quietly beside Raven, only speaking when spoken to. Of course, that wasn't really strange for him.

"I can't believe this food is so expensive, it doesn't even taste that good. It's like robbery!" Hiro smirked as he looked up at Gekko.

"Hey, that sounds like it could be fun." Gekko blinked as he watched Hiro get up.

"Hiro, what're you doing?" Gekko caught a glimpse of a silver barrel as he his friend walked past toward the counter.

"Raven, how long has Hiro owned a gun?" Raven cocked her head to the side and her eyebrow rose as she looked at her friend.

"What're you talking about? Hiro never owned a gun. Why would our quiet little Hiro have a gun if he can't bring himself to hurt a fly?" A few moments later they heard shouts of terror and saw people scrambling for the door. Gekko was the first to notice what was causing all the commotion. Hiro stood at the cash register with a gun pointed to the clerk's head. Raven noticed it too and her heart sank.

"Well, it looks like he has one now. And he's quite possibly about to do something very stupid."
