there've been so many names
so many different faces i've imagined
first was Leleita
my little italian girl
but she never came around
red-headed Rosaleen
but her eyes never opened
to look into mine
all the hispanic babies
i wished i could have had
but none ever appeared
the eight or nine children
my doctor promised me
but promises are made to be broken
and this one was no exception
my blonde angel's son
that followed him away
my tiny Carolyna
who disappeared before
i could hold her in my arms
all the names and all the dreams
the stuffed animals and the bottles
every little boy and girl
fell away on the same star
i wished on them for
