"The man who despairs is the man who has

dragged himself to his downfall"

Unequal Distribution

life is where the small get smaller

and the big get bigger

and once you are the smallest of the small

there's nothing

then what are you to do?

curl up and hide?

or try to  get? bigger and lose?

either way you get crushed

Flying

he was flying

free

the wind buffeting

the burdens left behind

the tears hung still

in the air above

where was he going?

traveling to an easier place?

or leaving a place too hard?

was he searching

or escaping?

thinking

or not?

all he knew was that the pain was gone

for him.

police respectfully remove hats

as they visit

a middle class home

mother

father

brother

and a dog out the back

waiting to be fed

Responsibility

jerking awake to

the screaming

pleading cries

that is my child

sometimes I wonder

if there is a part of

me somewhere in her

instead of being just

a bundle of tears

that demands to

be fed

burped

changed

life is simple for her

as it used to be for me

once I too was like her

no responsibility, no commitments

life is simple for her

as it used to be for me

Endless cycle

memories

are of no more consistency than water

slipping and running

through the plug

which we do not know

Hopelessness

white

white as the crisp, clean snow

but even the snow becomes muddied

white

white as a young rose of love.

but even this beauty can fade

and wither in the

sun
