At 4:30am that day he got in his car and drove to the grocery store.
Hugging his Kitty, he hurried up to the door. Then he stopped. "Okay, I
thought Jewel Osco was open all day! What happened to the lights?" He
squeezed his Kitty tighter. Soon though, his hunger overcame his fear. He
tried the door. It was open. Okay, Bub said to himself, I'll just grab the
food I want and leave the money on the counter. It's silly, but I need
CHICKEN! He went inside. It was dark, though he could still make out the
isles and the yummy foods sitting on them. He was about to yell, "IS ANYONE
HERE?" but he didn't. Bub was scared again.
He almost ran out the door to go back home. If there were monsters in that store, he didn't want to be their dinner. I'll just starve for a while, Bub decided. Anything would be way better than being HERE. Yes, and there, in the darkness, his tummy made a low, but loud, VERY loud noise. A long, loud, low noise that went on forever. At least Bub thought it did. When it finally stopped all the lights went on, one by one. Just when he reached the door! The door was locked! How did it? Bub did not know. He turned around and froze in his spot, his mouth wide open, too shocked to speak or move.
