Chapter#4 Blood and more Blood
.Syro and I slipped through the streets of Mederis Generation.
"How do you know where to go?" I said brushing my hair behind my face. "Let's just say I've been around for a while", Syro hissed. It was close to midnight. The noises of the city were much more resounding, with my enhanced hearing. Sounds of the officer's GMt56 cruisers blaring their eerie sirens into the night, and of helicopters flying overhead filled the night.
Syro showed me to a small bar, The Drunken Bastard, he slipped around the back and leaped to the roof of the structure. "Drunks? By God are you crazy, Syro?"
"Close to", he said prying open a trapdoor. "Wait, Syro, I don't know if I can do this. Couldn't I just kill an animal?"
"Shrenzy, you'll need the blood". I fidgeted nervously, as he continued to struggle with the trapdoor. "Ack, fine, I'll get you a rat or something, but only cause its your first time, no more animals in the future". I nodded in agreement. "Stay here, okay? I'll be back", he whispered as he slid through the door. I fidgeted some more, with the black gloves. Minutes passed, and finally Syro slid through the trapdoor, with two bodies in his arms. He threw a small creature at me. I caught it nimbly, and turned it over. "What is this?"
"Raccoon". He put down the two bodies of a man and a woman. He straightened out and smoothed his cloak. Against his pale skin, I could see tiny nail marks on his face. I pointed them out. "Surprisingly, drunks are very vicious sometimes". He knelt beside the body of the woman, and pulled her body onto his knees. He traced a vein with his fingers and then bit into it. He drank deeply of the sacrifice, and discarded it as soon as he finished with it. A deep crimson stain tainted his marble face. "What you want to do is find a vein. It does not matter where. We usually go for the neck because one of the body's main artery is found there. But it is a little harder to find it on a raccoon because of all the fur, and it gets rather messy with all the blood". I tried to feel out a vein in the raccoon's neck. "Let me", Syro said holding out his hand. I handed him the body. He felt for the vein for a moment. "Here", he said digging his sharp nail into the vein. Blood bubbled out of the small puncture. "Hurry, before it cools", he warned. Before I could react, I placed my lips on its furry neck and sucked in its contents. It was unlike anything I had ever tasted before. Everything I had ever savored now disappeared, with the warm metallic taste of blood on my lips. I drank all the blood in its body. I staggered back into Syro, feeling dizzy. "Do not try to drink anymore, once there is no more, it just makes you dizzy", he said steadying me.
"Thrilling isn't it?" He bit into the body of the young man, and drank his blood. "Yes", I whispered.
"Of course human blood is better and warmer". "Do you hunt here a lot?" I asked.
Syro nodded, licking the blood that still flecked his lips. "I come here when I can. Mostly in the night."
We abandoned the bodies to rot, and Syro showed me the internals of Mederis Generation. "You are a very righteous vampire", Syro said to me, as we watched the movement of the city from miles above, on the Ryealence Might, Towere of Steel. "Your not so bad yourself", I answered, my mind misty with exhaustion, and excitement.
"One day, when our race takes back our city, I could make you powerful".
"Why do think I would want power?" "Everyone wants power".
"I'm not like everyone". "Then what do you want?"
"I want to be loved". "to be loved?" he snorted, "When your a vampire, no one loves you with the exception of your comrades, and even they could hate you".
"I know what you're trying to say, its just that I have never been loved, and I never will be. That's what disturbs me".
Syro stared off in the distance. "This is your new life". He was silent for a moment. A warm crimson tear of blood spilled down my face.
"You had a bad life didn't you?" he asked softly. I nodded, sniffling softly. "Why am I bleeding?" I said catching the bloody tear in my palm.
"Vampire's cry blood". I wiped the bloody tear with my arm. "We should get you out of here", he jumped to the ledge of the tower. "Can I stay with you?" "Wha?" he asked surprised, almost falling over. "stay with me? Why would you want to? It's too dangerous".
"What do you mean?" "I don't stay in one place for long. I move around. Its way too dangerous for you", he smiled. "Come on". He leaped off the ledge. Rain poured down into darkness. I smiled wryly and jumped off the 400 foot tower. I landed gracefully in a cat stance. Syro, right next to me, hissed softly and rose to his feet. I kicked a puddle of water into the air. Water poured like a hundred waterfalls from the intricately detailed gutters that connected to the thatched roofs. Mangled stone wound around stone to form dark faces in the element. I wiped the rain from my eyes, and continued back home.
.My body reeked of blood. The metallic stench clung to my clothes as well as my skin. I took a shower to cleanse the odor from suspicion. I scavenged around in a towel looking for my clothes. A slight breeze brushed by. I whirled around to find myself face to face with Syro.
"I knew you were there", I said. "I know", he grinned wickedly, "nice towel".
"Do you mind?" I cried, flinging myself into the closet. Syro laughed softly outside.
"You will need to find somewhere else to live. You cannot stay here anymore".
"Why not?" I asked. "It's too open, you need to be hidden". I slid outside wearing the black outfit. The silver tips of my hair shone brightly, as water dripped down the strands.
"Have you fed at all?" Syro asked. I shook my head, "not since last night".
"okay, we'll need to find something. Have you got the weapons?" I waved the pocket belts in my hand, and slipped them around my waist. I attached the blades with their scabbards to the belts. "Why do we use weapons when we have fangs?"
"Sometimes we have to fight without revealing our identities". He stepped on to the window ledge, and leaped up to the roof. I slipped on the dark trench coat, and leaped onto the roof.
."Why is there nothing weak for you to kill?" Syro muttered, scanning the city square for some weak prey for me to kill on my own. "Why does it have to be weak?" I yawned, "Can't we take on something strong?"
"Because I want you to learn how to kill. I won't always be here to kill things for you. Ugh, right now I'm ready to kill anything, I need the blood badly now".
"Let's just find anyone", I said wearily. I needed blood just as bad, and I was growing weaker by the minute. Dusk was upon the city now. People were mostly on their way home, or were supposed to be. We could not find anyone.
My head was spinning. The need for the metallic taste burned within me. Syro leaped ahead to another roof top. I swayed dizzily.
"Shrenzy, over here", Syro hissed. I grew colder, and I crumpled to the floor as the need for blood overwhelmed me. I was just barely conscious. Syro cursed softly. I felt him lift my limp form and leap down to the dirty abandoned street. He dropped me roughly into a pile of trash and pounced on a young man holding a pile of papers. The papers flew everywhere as he dropped them and whipped a blade from his belt. He stabbed wildly at Syro. Syro was a lot weaker than the young man because his lack of blood, but he was easily faster than him. Syro tried to sink his fangs into his neck but he caught the vampire at the throat. He slit him on his chest, under his collar bone. Dark, crimson blood spilled all over his body. With one final attempt, Syro pinned the human down and bit into his neck. A moan escaped him and he fell limp. Syro licked the blood from the two punctures, and bit into him again, drinking deeply. I writhed feverishly on my pile of trash. Syro dragged the body to me, and used the man's blade to cut its wrist. He held it out to my lips. "Drink it or you'll die", he said.
I groaned as a small rivulet of blood ran into my mouth. I drank the blood completely, but I could not get my body to move.
"Open your eyes, Shrenzy", Syro whispered. I willed them to open. My vision returned. "Eck, sorry about that", I said dizzily. Syro smiled, blood slid down his body. I threw my arms around him, not caring of the blood that stained body as well. "Sorry!!!!" I shrieked.
He laughed weakly, "It happens to all of us, I'll be fine, vampires heal faster than humans. But let's get outta here before someone sees us".
"How do you know where to go?" I said brushing my hair behind my face. "Let's just say I've been around for a while", Syro hissed. It was close to midnight.
