Judges

Some people judge me by my courage
By the obstacles in my life,
And how I overcame them
By the people I have loved
And who have loved me

Some people judge me by my perseverance
By my reaction to pressure,
My indecisiveness
By my tendencies and habits
And my ability to deal with difficulties.

Some people judge me by my faith
By my willingness to stand behind
My beliefs
By my self-esteem and self-confidence
And by the paths I choose

Some people judge me by my talent
By my ability to laugh
Or cry
By the way my eyes open wide
When I listen

Some people judge me by my skin
By the color of my hair,
Or eyes
Or my heritage,
By the way I look when they first
Lay eyes on me,
By the arrangement of words
I typed on a screen.

If you're going to judge me-
And inevitably you are,
Since humans are all judges
In each of their own ways…
If you're going to judge me,
And want to judge me well,
Don't judge me by the way I appear
Or the way I am
Or the way I was,
But by the way I could be.
Judge me
By my willingness to become better
For the sake of the world.
Judge me only
By my capacity
To love.
