Passer-by (My Gray Painting)
While I was walking down this street one day,
A nice, young lady came up to me,
She looked at the painting I had with me,
She asked 'Why is it all gray?'
I said it means nothing.
I said it means something.
Puzzled,
She just walked away.
Even if I told her what it meant,
It does not matter any way,
Because it means nothing to you,
However, it means something to me.

While I was walking down this street one day,
I noticed everybody else was gray,
Faded black and white,
Faces pale and tight.
So, I stood there the whole day,
As everybody else passed by me.
When finally a figure,
Brighter than light,
Took me by the hand,
And deprived me of my sight.
'It' was walking down the street,
And happened to bump into me,
'It' saw my tears coming,
And wanted to wipe them away for me.
'It' coated my painting,
With bright colors over gray,
And for a moment, I thought I could see,
Through the brightness, It's face.
When all of a sudden, it started to rain,
And It had to run away,
'It' faded into black and white,
And I never saw 'It' or It's light again.
'It's' coat of colors faded too,
And my painting faded back to gray.

While I was walking down this street one day,
A nice, young man came up to me,
He smiled at me and said 'Hi',
And at that moment, I started to cry.
He asked me why,
I said nothing,
I showed him my painting,
And that's when it started happening…
Again.
Perhaps it was my painting,
Perhaps it was too gray,
Or maybe it's just me and my problems,
Whatever it was,
He was just like the others…
He faded away.
He was just another 'It',
He was just another passer-by.
They seem to be all around me,
The grayness never seems to fade or die.
They will never understand,
No matter how much they try.
Perhaps they will someday,
When they walk down this road WITH me,
And not just pass me by.
Sometimes in life, no matter how hard we try to understand a person's feelings or problems, we will never fully understand how a 'pain' leaves a 'scar' behind until we've 'cut' ourselves. However, thank you to those who tried, for the effort you put into your multiple attempts at deciphering this 'code'.
