Faeries

Within these shadowy walls
My refuge is at bay
No sorrowing soldier's words
Stain the cold stone's flesh

The sun rises in the east
Dawn creeps upon the land
The night's shelter is cast away
And the world is exposed

The faeries dance their last
Their wings glisten in the sunlight
They shun their faces with their arms
They long to see the night

The magical creatures appear, fully seen
Their red and golden eyes
Dripping venom in every thought
They curse the sun and flee

I watch them disappear with sadness
I long to run away with them
But, alas, I am just a mere human
Still growing my own pair of wings
