The Scales

There is no sun without the moon.
There are no stars without the noon.
There is no ground on which to stand,
without a sky, so vast and grand.
And there could be no ice or snow,
without the fire down below
Opposites attract, it's true,
but there is something more they do.
Opposing things, like Time and Space
all hold each other in their place.
And, between them, we shall find
a universe both cruel and kind.
Without the darkness, light would flee,
and all we know would cease to be.
