Ch.1
"Oh so your from around here?" Jess said. She was at a party that one of the kids from the in-crowd was throwing. Jess had recently become a member of the supposed "In-crowd" that I speak of.
"Yeah I was born in upper Cali and I've lived here almost my whole life" Eric, the boy she was talking to replied. Jess smiled slyly at him as she stepped closer. She had just met Eric at this party. Out of the corner of her eye she saw another person enter the room.
She looked and she saw Emily enter. Emily was one of Jess's best friends....until everything changed. Now they barley ever hung out. Emily looked at her for a minute. Jess turned around and didn't face her "That was your old life...this is your new one" she thought to herself.
Eric grabbed her hand and pulled her aside from the crowd and outside of the house. When they got out there, there were a couple other people out there but Eric was leading her away from them. As they reached his car she asked where they were going. "For a drive" was all he said. She smiled and got into the car. As she looked back at the house a stab of guilt went through her but she pushed it away. She told herself she couldn't think of that at a time like this. Eric turned on the radio as they drove. As he flipped through the stations she heard a pop group playing. She almost said "Stop I want to listen to that" but she didn't. That music was part of her old lifestyle. Doreen would hate it if she found out she told a guy to listen to that kind of music. He stopped at a station with what appeared to be playing a Rock song. She wasn't fully up on the Rock hits, but she pretended like she knew it.
Jess saw Eric drive and turn down a street. Then they drove up a driveway and he stopped the car. Jess got nervous. "No...it's ok just remember what Doreen said. If I don't fell comfortable just tell him to stop" she said to herself. Eric came around and opened her car door. They walked up the sidewalk and he unlocked the house. As they walked in, Eric stopped to turn on the lights. Then he grabbed her hand and swung her around. He put one hand on her lower back and pulled her up against him. Jess felt a wave of nervousness go through her but she pulled her self together and managed to smile. He was smiling back at her. He put his other hand under her chin and lifted her face slightly. Then he leaned down a bit and kissed her. It was a semi-rough kiss, but she didn't mind. He ran his fingers through her long, brown hair. He started to walk which made her walk backwards into the living room. She felt a wall behind her and leaned up against it. He walked up and leaned against her. She felt his hand go to the back of her halter top and suddenly felt uncomfortable.
She broke the kiss. "Um Eric" She said. "Yes Baby?" She felt to weird. She couldn't take it anymore. "I can't do this I'm sorry" she said.
"What do you mean?" he asked backing away from her.
"Well I like you, but I just cant go this far when I've only known you for an hour"
"Well then I guess you have no right being here.goodnight" and then he walked into a room and shut the door. Jess felt relieved and quickly went back to the door. Then she realized something. Her car was still at the party. How was she supposed to get there and get home?
"Well its not that far...it only took us a 5 minute drive to get here" she said. She started walking in the direction of where the party had been.
She finally got there about 45 minutes later. She could hear the party still going on. She went inside quickly to get her jacket. She heard someone call her name and turned around. It was Michael. He was sitting on a couch in the room. He looked at her with a look of concern, but she couldn't say anything. She just smiled at him, shook her head no and left. When she reached her car Michael came up behind her. Michael was another of her friends. They had become friends before her life had changed as well, but she just couldn't break off a friendship with him. She even had felt bad about breaking apart from Emily.
"How ya been Jess?" he said. She turned around and looked up at him.
"Fine.just fine"
"Oh.that's good, me too. You haven't been around lately...why is that?"
"No reason Michael.look I have to go"
"Ok bye Jess"
".Yeah bye" she whispered as she got in her car. As the 16 year old drove off she felt tears forming. "Don't cry.your over him remember? You had an agreement, don't go back on it now" she thought, wiping her eyes with her jacket sleeve.
When she got home, the lights were off. She guessed her mom, step dad, and 2 of her brothers were sleeping. Her older brother Tyler was probably out at a party still, and Bethany her 14 year-old sister had gone to a party that night as well. As she walked up the stairs she tried to be quiet but her pant legs made noise as they hit each other.
"That's what ya get for wearin your baggy pants" she heard. A light went on and she saw Kevin at the top of the stair. He was her 15 year- old brother, and one of her best friends.
"Yeah I guess so" she replied. She walked to the top and her and Kevin walked to their rooms. Jess was exhausted and changed for bed. She heard the front door open and went out in the hall. It was Tyler, her older brother. "Wow your home before Bethany even, wonder what she's up to" she said smiling. Tyler just nodded and walked up the stairs. He walked past her and into his room without saying anything. Confused, Jess walked back to her room, and went to bed, considering the fact that she had school the next day.
