Darkness

what lies in darkness
is a question of mankind.
We feel compelled to do the
unspeakable
when no one can see us.
But what makes the unspeakable,
unspeakable?
It is both the most beautiful of things
and the most terrible
that are
unspeakable.
For to whom do we wish to disclose,
our most private matters
which occur in the privacy of
darkness?
Some say that you see the
soul
of a person
when they are alone,
with no one watching,
no one forming opinions,
no one threatening to
unmask
the depths of their soul.
But I ask of these people,
when were you fortunate enough
to observe,
form opinion,
and be hidden from view,
but still be in the company
of one in
solitude,
of one in
darkness?
