Midnight Lullaby

I lay here

Quietly listening to my bedtime story,

Of a gigantic flood,

With animals; two by two,

In a humongous boat,

With the biggest, brightest rainbow.

Dreamily I gaze at the white ceiling,

Walls, and floor

Almost like a pearl; mind wandering.

Repositioning my head o my make-shift pillow

Silently listening to my father finishing the story

...A pearl with a rotten middle.

Finally my father's breathing steadied

I listened to my favorite lullaby

Father's song,

Beating strong and steady

The drum of life

Babum, babum, babum

My eyes slowly closed

Mind wandering to a farther,

Better place.

I never heard my father's lullaby stilled.
