I have a secret dream,
A dream that none but myself knows,
A dream of days of old,
A dream of lords and ladies,
Of castles and of turrets,
Of walled gardens and of gothic windows.
A wondrous dream,
A dream that lives locked within my lonely heart.
It wants to get loose,
It wants to be known,
Hearken to its velvet wings,
It longs to fly.
Yet until now I have locked the cage
Shut it away so that no one could see.
For fear of mockers and scoffers and such.
For such is the mindset of people today.
I slammed the door and threw out the key,
Hardly daring to peep.
But now I fling wide the door,
Break open the cage,
Let it swoop out,
Oh how it sings for joy.
Its velvet wings caress my mind,
As it dances and dances,
Upwards and upwards,
Swirling and dancing,
Till its very fabric can be seen as it jumps heavenwards.
This is my dream and I shall show it you.
Will you sit and hearken to my dream?
A dream that none but myself knows,
A dream of days of old,
A dream of lords and ladies,
Of castles and of turrets,
Of rose gardens and of arches,
Of unconditional love?
Will you hearken to my dream?
One day my lord shall come riding,
Dressed in black from head to toe,
His horse: the colour of midnight,
A stallion born and bread.
One day my lord shall come riding,
And on one knee he shall go,
A single blood red rose,
A token of his love,
For his princess and his lady,
His most beloved.
One day my lord shall come riding,
Through the moonlit night
His horse: the colour of midnight,
A stallion born and bread.
In his arms he shall take me,
Whisking me away,
To his gothic castle 'neath the sky
And there I shall be his princess
And he shall be my prince of darkness.
One day my lord shall come riding,
Dressed in black from head to toe,
His horse: the colour of midnight,
A stallion born and bread.
And he shall woo me gently,
Oh so gently,
With poetry and with songs that he himself has penned.
A thousand blood red roses he shall plant,
Among the crumbling walls,
Of the ruined orchard in the castle grounds.
For he knows how much his lady doth love,
The crimson blood red rose.
One day my lord shall come riding,
Dressed in black from head to toe,
His horse: the colour of midnight,
A stallion born and bread.
He shall watch me sleeping,
My breathing deep and slow,
His arms about my waist,
His face, buried in my ebony mane.
He shall be my protector,
My knight in shining armour,
My lord of all the realm.
One day my lord shall come riding,
Dressed in black from head to toe,
His horse: the colour of midnight,
A stallion born and bread.
He shall watch me peacefully
Watching the first few rays of sunlight
Reflected in the water, reflecting upon my face.
He alone shall watch them dance upon my closed lids.
Then I shall awake and see my lover lying there
My waist encircled by his arms.
One day my lord shall come riding,
Dressed in black from head to toe,
His horse: the colour of midnight,
A stallion born and bread.
And together in his castle we shall live
Forever and forever, never ever parting.
My lover, my lord,
My poet and my knight,
Gently loving me always.
He shall be my guardian angel,
Lord of all the realms.
One day my lord shall come riding,
Dressed in black from head to toe,
His horse: the colour of midnight,
A stallion born and bread.
And he shall be the one with whom I share the wondrous gift-
Of holy matrimony.
That was my dream
My secret, hidden dream.
The dream that no one but myself knew,
The dream which has lurked within the confines of my lonely heart.
Now it has stretched its velvet wings
Oh hear it sing for joy.
For now it dances free,
Its hushed velvet wing-beats sounding.
You have listened to my dream
The dream that has longed for release,
From the day that it was born.
The sound of its wings against the walls of my heart.
Gradually getting louder and louder,
Louder and Louder
Till I could bear it no more
And allowed it release
In the lines of this poem.
And I know that someday soon,
One day my lord shall come riding,
Dressed in black from head to toe,
His horse: the colour of midnight,
A stallion born and bread.
I know he will come riding
My beloved lord of the realms.
