In lives that passed behind me
I trod the ways of old
And the work of the world by the Lady
Was a wonder to behold
Now I have come to life again
But alas, it's not the same

Once I could pay homage to nature
And no one would thing it was strange
Then came a time of great danger
When magic brought reactions of rage
Even though the danger's gone
The prejudice goes on

Once magick was the way we all followed
When purity and nature meant more
We understood that all land was hallowed
And we found power in all that we saw
Now respect for the earth falls
People worship behind the church walls.

Once trees and plants paved the land
And cornflower-blue was the sky
The Lord and the Lady stretched out their hands
And happy and free was I
Now the ways are turning
The fires of industry are burning

Once I knew that life had a meaning
And I knew every song the birds could sing
Night brought peace and happy dreaming
Winter turned smoothly to spring
But those were the days of old
Now every day is empty and cold

Once covering the land were the groves
Of the sacred oak trees were I'd go
When the first shoots of spring arose
To find the beauty only nature can show
Now bleak buildings stretch up to the sky
I gaze at the tarmac and cry.

Once the sunlight dappled
With gold all the leaves of green
And the light danced and sparkled
On every river and stream
Now all the waters are black
Alas, we can't turn time back

Once verdant was the life that was growing
All over the land of the earth
No one doubted that the Goddess was showing
Her love to the world that she birthed
Now all that's left is dust
What once was is now lost
In lives that passed behind me
I trod the ways of old
And the work of the world by the Lady
Was a wonder to behold
Now I have come to life again
But alas, it's not the same
