The next day I saw the half blind boy again, and I stopped in surprise, dropping the apple I was eating. There, walking calmly beside him was a being that was like Grey.

He had the same shimmery look that Grey had, especially when I wake up early in the morning when the sky's still dark and everything except for Grey is asleep, and he looks almost insubstantial and he feels like his cold skin might disappear beneath my fingers, incorporeal as a dream. Only he lacked the feathery wings that Grey had, but wore a pair of dark wings stolen from some very large bats. I blinked, and he shimmered out of sight, but came back after a moment.

I followed them down the street, not for very long, but long enough to see the boy kill a man, and steal his eyes.

I went home and refused to leave my room for a week.
