A Separated Death

Among the twisting, turning thoughts,
Which fall like raindrops all around,
I see their faithless, bloodshot eyes,
Their dreams in pieces on the ground.

I hold my hands out to be touched,
And cold, numb fingers grasp me back,
This meet of souls so sorrowful,
Makes up for hope, which we both lack.

I smile at her, and she smiles too,
Although I know I cannot stay,
This human contact comforts me,
Yet I can't fight another day.

The girl steps back to join the rest,
The group once more a frightening sight,
They know their lives are slowly ebbing,
Separated from the light.

And in the midst of this confusion,
The journey for myself is done,
I lie upon the tainted earth,
Become a shadow, then, I'm gone.
