Hear this:
Are you listening?
Did you even hear what I said?
No, that was it, if you want to know.
There was nothing else.

But did you hear it, or see it, or what?
Did you really listen?
Or did you hear?

Are you listening?

Now you listened. Now you must know what I mean.
No? Perhaps you weren't listening.
But if you want to know, that's all there was.

I am listening...

but hearing nothing.
One can listen and hear nothing.
But perhaps the hearing is in the listening.
And so if one does not listen...
...one does not hear.

But one does not have to listen to hear.
Neither does one have to hear to listen.
Of the two, I would rather listen.

Because, after all, the hearing is in the listening.

Have you been listening?
