Bet you didn't know

To us, the students, it seems,
That you teachers know a lot.
But I can name at least ten things
That we think you know not.

I bet you didn't know
That a child in your class
Is a writer,
With the gift of an imagination.
Or that one of your students
Is a kid scientist,
Forming his own creations

I bet you didn't know
That a child in your class
Is having a bully problem,
And is threatened, or scared not to tell
Or that a kid in your class
Is a bit mischievous
And finds it fun to act like a rebel

I bet you didn't know
That a child in your class
Is having a problem at home,
And wishes he or she could talk to someone who would care.
Or that a boy or girl in your class
Loves horror movies
And finds nothing more enjoyable then to get a bit of a scare

I bet you didn't know
That a child in your class
Loves to swim
And one day will be a water star
Or that someone in your class today
Is in a band
Slamming cords down hard on his guitar

I bet you didn't know
That a child in your class
Really loves to sing
And takes voice lessons twice a week
Or that one boy sitting doing math
Knows more then one language
And doesn't have limitations on what he can speak.

There, I said it, it is done,
Ten things you did not know
And these things, I promise you,
Are not a pun.

But don't just think about the things that are bad,
Think about the good things here,
And with those things, our future,
Is looking pretty glad.
