Damage

BY: Irish Guy

I walk into one of the many hallways of the school when the song "Brain Damage" by Pink Floyd comes on over the P.A. The song's lyrics calmly invade my thoughts,

The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass.

I see people in pairs talking against lockers,

Got to keep the loonies on the path.

I notice there's a narrow space in-between the people in the hall…

The lunatic is in the hall

The lunatics are in my hall.

I walk down the aisle of people and overhear someone ranting about government conspiracies while the song plays on,

The lunatic is in my head

The lunatic is in my head.

I continue my idle walk and hear a pair of girls gossiping about some guy who walks different,

You raise the blade, you make the change,

You rearrange me 'till I'm sane.

I see the Dean yelling at some shivering kid

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear,

there's a student protesting animal rights

You shout and no one seems to hear,

I see a group of people who were hugging just a minute ago now all turning on one person,

And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes,

The bell rings and the people disappear to their classes while I stand in the middle of the hallway,

I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
