Sonnet IV

If you were to ask me why I love you,
I honestly wouldn't know what to say.
All I know is what I feel is true. . .
Give me some reason for feeling this way.
Give some happiness, give me some hope,
Some pity if that's all you can muster;
Because it's getting to where I can't cope
With the fear my love will lose its luster
Before it ever sees the light of day.
Give me some reassurance, if you will,
That you're hearing what I'm trying to say,
Give me some reason why I'm hoping still.
Answer my question—I'm still in the dark—
Tell me: do you know you're breaking my heart?
