Kitten

Kitten, feet, padding so light
How is it that you take flight?
After midnight, do you sprout wings?
You never bother with trivial things
Pouncing forth, from place so high
To attack a wayward fly
And when boredom takes it's keep
You quickly fall in dreamless sleep
You never sleep for long, my impish friend
Always flying to the end
And when, perchance, your goals are met
You always join me in my bed
Cuddling closely, no cares in the world
While I wonder what the day will unfurl
And what joy your purring brings!
Before you sprout your furry wings
And I'm left alone again
Knowing that my heart will mend
Kitten, feet, padding so light
How is it that you take flight?
I know now that you need no wings
You fly from all the joy you bring.

Author's notes: I wrote this on one of my cats 'crazy days' and wondered what she must be thinking. Suffice to say, this came into my head.
