Oh, Thoreau, Where Did You Go?

The light shines bright among the trees
What a sight, in spite of the chilling breeze!
With temptations enticing me
To begin it all again
With what the wilderness sees
And where my reason flees.

Oh, Thoreau, where did you go?
Emerson's inequalities of life
Cannot stop the oncoming strife
Of Mankind's meddling
Into the world that you once loved-
That world you left behind.
Where can I find
You, amongst this madness?
In the stars, in celestial flight?
In the woods, filling the world with light?

Oh, Thoreau, where did you go?
There is no longer a place for the Walker
And the Marrow has been sucked dry.
