I never heard what the two men said to the biker, I didn't need to. I knew the basics of it. I was contemplating whether or not I should step in and help Rhea, and whether my interference would screw around with the storyline. After about 10 seconds of thought, I decided at the right moment, I would interfere.
The first punch was thrown and I began to head closer to them. I sped up, and noticed that they had just discovered Rhea was a girl. I paused for a second, confused. Didn't this scene originally take place on a road that wasn't used frequently? And I was on a highway. As Rhea removed her helemt, I broke into a run.
"Hey you! Back off!" I shouted, realizing the stupidity and probably fatality of my mistake of shouting at them just as the words rolled off my tongue. Both men turned to look at me, giving Rhea a momentary advantage. Relaizing this, she took a swing at the man closest to her, hitting him in the gut. Unfortunately, it didn't affect him too much, and he swung back at her, knocking Rhea back to the ground. The other man began to advance towards me.
Oh Crap. Bad move Tabbi, bad move. I clenched my hands into fists and took a fighting stance. He may have been twice my size, probably ten times my strength, but I was not going to go down without a fight.
"Well well well, what do we have here? A Highway whore from the looks of it." He cackled.
I clenched my fists tighter and growled. Yes, you heard me, I growled. Not a very lady-like gesture, but I was hoping that giving off somewhat of a fierce disposition would help me out. Once again, I was wrong.
When he got close enough, I took a swing at him, but he blocked it and grabbed my arm, twisting me into him. Ugh. This man reeked. Probably hadn't had a shower in a couple of days. He wrapped his other arm around my waist, and tried to pull me tighter.
"Whatdya say we have a little fun?"
That was it. Without hesitation I brought my knee up into his 'precious area', ramming him as hard as I could. He yelped in pain, and loosened his grip, and I took advantage of it to wrench myself out of his grip. He wasn't squirming in pain for long though, and as I turned to move away his foot caught me hard in the ribs, knocking the wind out of me. I dropped to my knees in pain.
In my entire life, I had never taken a hit before. I may be a tough girl when I'm the one throwing punches, but I had never imagined even, how painful taking a kick or hit good be. It was too overwhelming. As I gasped for breath, my mind began to swirl, my thoughts scrambled, and things began to fade to black, almost as if in slow motion. I vaguely noticed headlights coming at me before everything went completely black.
When I woke up, I was once again in a strange place. A Hospital by the smell of it. I shuddered. I hate hospitals. I've only been in one once that I can remember. And that was because Burger King caught on fire and I enhaled too much smoke and CO2 from the fire exstinguisher while trying to make sure my fellow employees madee it out safely.
I was surrounded by unfamiliar voices, and looked up to find a very unfamiliar face looking down at me. A pretty brunette, close to my age, staring down at me a big smile on her face. "Good, you're awake. It seemed like you would never wake up. I'm Jessica... we saw you and the girl with the motorbike being attacked, and my dad and brother intervened. We brought you both to the hospital."
I smiled up at her. "Thanks. It's appreciated." I tried to move, and felt a searing pain in my side. "What's the diagnosis?" I said through clenched teeth, as I tried not to cry.
"Bruised ribs, but that's about it. We got there before your attacker could do anything other than that kick we saw you take," Jessica reassured me. "Your friend is going to be alright too. She has a fractured wrist."
"She's.. uhm, not my friend.. I don't know her. I saw her being attacked, and well, I tried to help." I replied.
Jessica looked away for a second, the expression on her face showing that she was unsure of whether or not she should ask her next question. Slowly, she looked back over at me. "If you don't mind me asking.. what exactly were you doing out on the highway, in nothing more than shorts, a t- shirt and a sweater?"
How did I know that would be her next question? I sighed. "To be honest I don't know... you're probably not going to believe this, but, when I went to bed in my home last night, I was in Southern, Ontario. I woke up, at night once again.... here in Pennsylvania, in my pj's, with no recollection of what happened in between that period of time."
Jessica looked at me like I was nuts. "You're serious aren't you?"
I nodded. "I wouldn't lie. I'm just glad when I woke up, my sweater was there.. it's a little uncomfortable running around the highway in my pj's."
She smiled. "Well, my dad said you and the other girl can stay at our house for the night, and we'll decide what happens from there."
I smiled back, as a thought crossed my mind; Now that I was in the story, I could do ALL the things I threatened Shymk I would do. Oh the greatness of it all. I couldn't wait to begin causing mischief in the story.
