Masks

Wear the mask long enough
and it is no longer a mask
but it is what you have become.
To hide your fears
and to bathe in lies.
Who do you run from,
Racing from yourself?
Where can you hide,
from the innermost secrets
and the deepest, darkest desires
that are hidden in your soul?
They say the eyes are windows,
that fall into your soul,
but Masks can cover even that
to what you want to show.
They say that masks will break one day,
they say to be yourself,
but when you are
what you fear most,
why take that chance?
Why take the darkest leap of faith,
why stop running from yourself?
