This is a story based on the song "Concrete Angel." The chorus is at the end.
The girl's name is Kimi because I saw somewhere it meant 'child without equal.'
She had stepped on the wet grass, walking towards the sidewalk. She was wearing her school bag and holding a paper bag. The bag probably held her self-made lunch; a turkey sandwich. She was wearing the same outfit she wore the other day.
She lives right near him. Actually, next door do him. His name is Kyosuke. Everybody calls him Kyo-kun though.
He called out her name, "Kimi!" She looked up at him, and for a second he thought he saw fear…but she was smiling when she saw it was Kyosuke. She didn't stop walking; she just sped up. He ran up to her. "You're a fast one aren't you?"
Kimi didn't say anything. She never had said much anyway. They walked silently to school. He got up early just to walk with her…
Kimi and Kyosuke walked into class at the same time, just before the bell rings. She looked over at the window, and he had noticed a large bruise on her neck. He'd made a small connection in his head…a large bruise plus the screaming in pain he'd heard the night before…
The teacher walked in and Kyosuke saw her look at Kimi. She looked as if she wanted to say something, but turned around. "Now, class, settle down…"
He walked home with Kimi again. Neither of them spoke to each other. He always walked home with her because he felt as if she wanted his company. There seemed as if she had so many things she wanted to tell him, but she didn't speak a word to Kyo-kun. He liked her, but not just because of her angelic, yet pale, face. It was something else. Something he couldn't see.
She reached her house, and suddenly turns to Kyo. "You're very kind, Kyo-kun, to keep me company." She kissed him on the cheek, and he watched her run to her house.
"Th—thanks……Kimi." He walks next door to his own house.
That night Kyosuke was awoken by screaming. It was the same screaming he heard most nights. His parents fought a lot, but it wasn't yelling screaming. It was someone screaming in pain. He walked down the stairs and saw his parents sitting on the couch.
"Can't you hear that?"
"Hai, Kyosuke, we hear it."
"Why doesn't somebody do something about it?"
"No one wants to get involved."
"Well, we should."
"Then, I will." Kyosuke begins to walk out the door but his mother grabs his arm.
"I don't want you to get hurt. Please?"
"How can you not do anything!?"
"Don't upset your mother, Kyosuke."
"SHE'S SCREAMING FOR SOMEONE TO HELP HER GOD DAMN IT!! DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN SIT ON YOUR ASS!!"
"Please!?" Kyosuke's mother was almost sobbing.
"…" Kyosuke sighed and looked at the ground. "I hate you… Fine I won't do anything." Kyosuke walked to his room.
The next day, Kimi isn't there. After a few weeks of Kimi's absence, Kyo begins to get suspicious. He and his friends were walking by the cemetery, when he happened to look in.
"There's a new grave?"
"Yeah…It's angel, can't you see it!?" Kyosuke ran up to a statue looking like an angel that was reaching out to him. He looked down at the name. "Kimi… Kimi? Kimi!?" He dropped down to the ground. "What the fuck—"
"Didn't you know, man? She died."
"What the… How?"
"I heard she was beaten to death."
Everyday there's a new white rose on the angel's grave… until one day, a new grave appears next to it. …Kyosuke Anda…
What Kyosuke will never know, is that Kimi 'dreamed of a place where she was loved'……Kyosuke's heart.
"Through the wind and the rain,
She stands hard as a stone,
In a world that she can't rise above,
But her dreams give her wings,
And she flies to a place where she's loved,
