If Ever.
If ever I ask you for a rainbow,
hand me a box of crayons;
For I can draw one myself,
fashion it as I choose,
selecting the shades,
adding texture with my touch,
putting a part of myself into it.
If ever I ask you for a book,
hand me parchment and pen;
For I can write one myself,
develop it as I choose,
selecting the words,
adding color with my style,
putting a part of myself into it.
If ever I ask you for a friend,
hand me your heart;
For I cannot make one myself,
mold it as I choose,
selecting the personality,
adding the qualities with my perception,
putting a part of myself into it.
This I cannot do.
You can.
