Held My Hand
You can smell her lilac perfume
and taste the peppermint on her breath
from miles away

She always wears heels
because she's only 5 foot 3
You can hear the pitter patter of her feet
with every step she takes
but not today

You can only see her
and watch her fade slowly

The radiance once shining in her face
is gone and replaced
by death's looming presence

She can no longer walk
She can't even stand

Soon she'll be lost
and gone forever
and she knows it (she never was dense)

But I'll always remember those shoes
and how she always held my hand
