My Barred Paradise

Upon my exit of the sheltered vehicle
I taste and feel happiness
It rids my face of concern
And allows my mind diamond clarity

Rejoicing like a kitten at play
Twirling as if to chase my tail
Until the conservative guffaw shoots me down
And hooks itself into my joy, dragging it inside

Sensibility and mockery soon follow
And I am denied my rainy paradise
Don't they know I could care less
What is "sensible" and "normal"

I escape to my room, lights out, music on
Secluded from the world, I am relieved
The bliss pours on with no one to enjoy it
And topaz dreams wink from the shadows

Knowing my dream is out there
Not caught by anyone just yet
And seeing the rain rubs it in
The misery of my barred paradise
