Pretty Lies

I spy a cascade of delicate, frosted lace

And veils of transparent gauze with a diamond shimmer.

Threads of silver and gold float up over my face

And I am soul-deep in the glimmer.

Lovely ribbons are wrapped around my neck

And artistically tied in the hollow of my throat.

I breathe in the jewel dust and golden flecks.

The noose tightens and it all denotes

A disguise

And underneath

Such pretty lies.
