Warning- This is a Yaoi, or SLASH story! Yay! And it's about vampires! Double yay! It's sorta dark in some places, but for the most part it is a comedy. This chapter has nothing in it, I will use this section to let you know if anything is going on that might bother you!

B..b...B Chapter One: The Rain and the Charade Continues B..b..B

It was raining again. Sometimes the fickle rainwould tease the people of Red Oak. The rain would stop for a couple of hours, maybe a day at max, but almost as quickly as it would stop it would pick up again. Red Oak was a town in, what seemed to be, a curse of constant gloomy-ness. The people of Red Oak were mainly the families of the servants for the Lord Seraph. He owned a huge castle like mansion (might as well be called at castle for argument's sake) that was position on the outskirts of the town. Red Oak was located in a deep forest about 40 miles from the busy city of Landerson. Red Oak was a small town, containing only a market where everyone got their food, three restaurants, one bar, one doctor's office (not even a hospital), and a post office. There wasn't even a school there. All the children of Red Oak attended schools in Landerson. But, therearen't very many children to be foundin Red Oak. In fact, most of the servants that want to start a family leave Red Oak. You see the people of Red Oak believe that their children will be directly affected by the abnormalities of the town. What are these 'abnormalities' you ask? Well other thanthe constantrain, everyone who lived in Red Oak or worked for the Lord Seraph, and seemed to be cursed with a very depressed out look on life…

They seemed to have lost the feeling of what it was like to laugh, or to smile. The few families that did have children never lasted long because the children would fall ill. Despite a child's never ending thirst for life, even they fall to the "spell". No one really passes through the town, and the few that do don't stay, unless they are visiting family. There are a lot of retired couples residing in Red Oak and most suffer from memory loss. Most of them have, or had connection to working for Lord Seraph or the previous owners. Yet hardly anyone could recall who those owners were.So as of now, I suppose you could say that the town survived on Lord Seraph's employing of the people. He paid them well, mind you, but some wondered, if living in the seemingly cursed land, was worth it… No one had ever seen Lord Seraph walk the streets, but he often left on what, could only be guessed, as business trips to the city. Not many of the maids or butlers ever saw him, and if they did see him it was rather brief and it was to give them orders. No one could really say if he was a kind, or a mean man, they just knew him as their REALLY rich employer. Well, with the exception of one older man who was his personal butler and also the head of the employees of the castle. He was the only one who knew what Lord Seraph was like and what he was. Oddly enough, when anyone thought about how long the town had been around or how long Lord Seraph was there, they quickly forgot what they were thinking about and did not question it further.

Up until recently, no one thought that Lord Seraph had any relatives, at least not living. They guessed that the castle was owned by either a distant family member that he inherited it off of or maybe he saw it and bought it off of the old owner who no one could even recall.Their thought of Lord Seraph not having any relatives changed when all of the staff was informed of the arrival of Lord Seraph's brother Devon which would be that day. Devon arrived late one night, and of course it was raining, and he was greeted by his brother Seraph, and was led inside soon following their greetings for each other. The entire staff was ordered to appear before Lord Seraph and his brother in the main hall, so that Devon may meet the servants, and they, their guest for the evening. The entire staff, even the ones who had seen Seraph before gaped at just how gorgeous the man was. And his brother looked equally handsome.

Seraph had straight long silver hair that was tucked behind his ears and fell neatly on his back. His skin was extremely fair and even seemed to glow. He had wonderfully mysterious violet eyes with specs of red mixed in. He was about 6'3 and was toned quite nicely, and his posture was impeccable. But he looked no older than 25. He was wearing a pair of black dress pants with a black long sleeved dress shirt. In fact why not say he looked flawless! That is what the entire staff thought. And their thoughts didn't change when it came to Devon. Devon had medium/short, jet black hair that was done up in spikes. His eyes were dark black with specs of blue mixed in. He was about 5'8, standing sorter than his brother. He was also nicely built, but like his brother, wasn't massive but toned to perfection. His skin was also extremely fair. His posture wasn't as perfect as his brother but carried himself in a very confident, nonchalant way. His attire suited him. He was wearing black jeans and a casual black t-shirt with red writing on the front. Compared to Seraph he looked no older than 21. Seraph allowed his servants a moment to examine both him and his brother before he spoke.

"Everyone, this is my younger brother who will be staying with us for the evening, so please make him feel comfortable." The entire room let out silent gasps as they heard his voice. It was smooth and icy but very, VERY seductive. "Understand that he is also your master, and any wish that he may so desire you shall grant. Anything he wants, you do not have to check with me before acting on his wishes. You should address him as Master or Lord Devon as you do me. Am I clear?" He ended with a very firm and final-word type of tone but at the same time, if you had heard him you would have sworn he was bored.

"Yes Lord Seraph. Welcome, Master Devon." The servants all spoke in perfect unison as if they had been practicing for weeks. Truth be told, they were some what surprised themselves.

Devon gave a small smile after that impressive show. Seraph on the other hand, hadn't expected anything less and soon dismissed them.

"Come this way brother we have much to discuss according to you…" Seraph motioned for Devon to follow him into a small study at the end of one of the many hallways off to the side of the great hall they were just in. As they entered the room, a maid was already waiting for them and prepared Lord Seraph a glass of red wine. And then began to offer Devon a drink but Seraph motioned for her to leave them be, and he would take care of the drink himself. The maid bowed and exited the door, closing it behind her.

"It is almost as if they read your mind brother! I'm impressed!" Devon said after witnessing the whole thing with the maid. Seraph just sat down on a leather couch facing two leather chairs and a fire place. Devon followed suit and sat in one of the huge leather chairs opposite of Seraph.

"Yes well… Now, what do you need to discuss that was so urgent? And I hope it also explains to why you suddenly decided to come see me." Seraph said this and sipped his wine as Devon playfully winced at both the wine and at the last statement.

"I don't get how you can stand that vile stuff brother… Anyways, do I need a reason for coming to see my favorite brother?" Devon asked this sheepishly and smiled at his older brother who sat almost stoic like, except for his eyes which gave a lookas if to saywhat-hell-are-you-rambling-on-about. That was always his weakness. Somewhere along the line his eyes became an open book to his emotions, which anyone with half a brain could read.

"Alright, alright…" Devon spoke after seeing his brother's stare. "You are in dire need of a mate brother… I mean, you aren't getting any younger but I think 250 years of solitude is long enough." As he said this, Seraph looked at him with his same stoic stare. Devon noticing this, and knowing that his brother was about to protest, spoke up. "Well, if not a mate, a pet, or something! Anything! Honestly, you have lived in this castle far too long… I mean I have five pets as it is!!" Devon said this with desperateness behind his voice.

Seraph had had this conversation with his younger brother far too many times before whether face to face, telegrams, letters, and even in more recent years, phone calls… He was growing tired of this same old charade they played. The fact of the matter was, Devon was right. But Seraph had never had any intention of finding himself a pet or a mate for that matter. He figured that his life as the basic "ruler" of Red Oak was good enough for him; calm, secluded, and not stressful was the life he was living. Yet despite his love for his current life Seraph had never told his brother this, nor anyone for that matter, but he had a hunger, a thirst, for someone to be by his side, that he and he alone could have maybe even control. Had Seraph ever told this to his younger brother, he would have explained that this was natural. But Seraph refused to be controlled but his wants and decided that he would argue with his brother once again.

"I've told you before brother, that I am not interested…" His once stoic expression changed to where it was full of annoyance. His eyes were daring his younger brother to cross him again. Devon noticed this and sighed. He had been beaten for the time being.

"Alright, alright you hell hound… (sigh) I suppose I should be going then… After all you don't seem to be adding much to the hospitality and you don't seem to have a good fight left in you anymore…" Devon did this on purpose, he knew that with this mock on his brother's high and mighty pride would end in some sort of violent confrontation, that would end up in an extended visit on Devon's part, which would mean more time to hook his brother up with a play mate! Devon had to stop himself from crying out in triumph as Seraph came over to him in one quick motion grabbing him by the collar of his shirt.

"Don't take that tone with me brother…" Seraph's eyes were cold now. "In case you have forgotten I'm older than you… Don't ever forget that!" Seraph threw his brother down and stood over Devon's body and frowned. "Well, I guess you won't be walking for sometime… I'll get someone to take you to your room…" Seraph said this after noticing that Devon's ankle was twisted in a way that no bone should be twisted.

Damn that means he'll be here longer… Arg… What happened to all my self control?? Seraph thought this as he exited the room.

Damn.. That kinda hurt… But no matter, hehe, my plan worked! Good job Devon I love you so much Devon thought this to himself, and the only thing that stopped Devon from grinning like a wolf was the pain in his ankle. Devon hadn't noticed Seraph exit the room but he must have because moments later Devon was greeted by a middle aged woman who had the look of "mother" written all over her face. She introduced herself as Nurse Melody. Devon smiled and even stood up, not really paying attention to his ankle. Melody quickly jumped up to catch the slowly falling Devon, and set him in a wheel chair that, as far as Devon was concerned, seemed to have appeared out of no where. She then rolled him out of the study area and into the hall then to an old fashioned elevator which she quickly boarded and took Devon up to the second floor. She then pushed him a little further and rolled him into a massive luxury suite! Devon only smirked at this, knowing very well, that either the maid had made a mistake or his brother was losing his edge. You see ever sense they were little, Seraph was crazily modest! So for Devon to be given such a showy room, meant that somebody made a mistake. And with that last thought of his brother, Devon was lost into further thoughts of his family. Devon wasn't even aware that he was being stripped of all his clothes except his boxers, placed into a black silk robe and then gently tucked into bed by Nurse Melody. She had even bandaged his foot, but he had not noticed any of this and he thought even more intently on his family... His vampire life…

When Devon and Seraph were little, Devon use to love watching his older brother practice martial arts. Seraph was what most vampires or hec, even assassins would call a perfect fighter. He had no outer flaws that could lead to his demise in a fight, and he didn't believe in foreplay in battle. He was cold and ruthless, never taking prisoners and never asking questions. But, Seraph had amazing self-control, which any vampire would know, is a trait to be held in high regard, especially for a someone as strong as Seraph. Seraph and Devon came from a very high class vampire family. Their father still resides in the family's old English Castle on a private beach in England. The entire coastal area and neighboring forests near that castle is hexed by ancient power to keep the haven secret.

Their father is one of the most highly respected vampires throughout the world, Hell, some say even Heaven hold him in high regard. Their father's name is Xavier Liaris. You see, both Devon and Seraph are vampires as well. Not pure blooded, but not children either. Their mother was a mate that their father never turned. For some reason, that no one knows why, their father saw something in the young lady that he had never seen before and refused to bite her. After Xavier had met her, he changed drastically. Before he had met her, he was a somewhat of a stereotypical old age vampire. A blood craved, sex craved, short tempered, violent as all hell, vampire and not to mention a force to be reckoned with. Xavier was no push over and in fact it is rumored that he is probably indestructible. He is a pure blooded vampire, born into one of the oldest blood lines of vampires, which no one really wants to drag out the good ol family tree to see just how thick the blood line ran, with the exception of a few. There was someone, a half cousin's forth cousin's sister-in-law (something like that) tried it and well… She's still looking. So needless to say they have a large family! But, Xavier had only two true offspring; Seraph and Devon. He was proud of both of them, and he loved them very much. But like most parents, he had several expectations for them. He had hoped his eldest, Seraph, would have taken over as head of the family, but Seraph liked his behind-the-scene actions better and so he declined the title. Seraph never liked the spot light, and Devon well… He lives for it!! Always has, and always will.

Before Seraph left home (the castle in England fyi), he would help Devon with all he needed to know about ruling the family. He taught him all of the traditions, rules, and dates to remember, he even taught him a thing or two about presenting himself to the public eye; which Devon totally misunderstood and Seraph still sulks to this day at the way Devon dresses. But, Seraph couldn't stand his life in the castle anymore, not because of his father, or his brother, it was more because of the control the place had over him. It broke Seraph's heart turning his father down to run the family. His father was a bit let down, but deep down he knew that Seraph was the type of person who didn't belong to that type of lifestyle, even though he would have been perfect!!! Seraph told his brother that his leaving did not mean in any way, that he was leaving the family or anything like that. His leaving was more or less to take a break from the memories. Though it would be nice to believe Seraph lived a charmed life in the Castle, it is far from the truth. He was not a spoiled child and never asked anything of his father. He was even convinced that he talking with his father was a bother, and a waste of his father's time. But, there were secrets in which Seraph kept to himself, at this point Devon could not even imagine.

Devon rolled around in the bed thinking about all of this, all the while not paying attention to that it was almost day light. He knew that whatever haunted Seraph so much to drive him out of his nice dark home in England, surrounded by people he knew and (hopefully) loved, and still made him nervous to return home to this day, also did a number on his brother's ability to love others. But how to bring him around… Let's see… I could always tie him to his bed starve him, and then bring in an entire line of gorgeous virgin women, and then lock them together in one room!! Hehe it's a brilliant plan! But… then again that's more or less my fantasy… Devon sighed at this, thinking how wonderful that would be, but then shook his head sadly knowing that his brother would probably torture Devon till he know longer knew who he was… Well… That won't work.

So what can I do? If worse comes to worse I'll have to find someone who would seriously consider a relationship with my ice sickle of a brother. She would have to be open minded, a submissive personality, but not too timid that would break into tears when my brother loses his temper. She would have to be calm and collected but always classy. She would be mindful and respectful towards Seraph… But where the hell will I find someone like that?! Devon sighed at this last thought, almost angry at his brother for making things so difficult. After thinking a couple more minutes on the matter he finally drifted off to sleep as the sun began to rise.
