!Note!: The reason why the other twelve chapters are missing are because I'm revising the whole story. Most of it will stay the same, but I'm adding in new chapters and such. Chapters starting with n are new, meanwhile chapters starting with e are just edited. Sorry guys :( this might change how things are a little bit, but I'll try to keep itthe same as much as I can, with just adding new chapters here and there so you don't have to re-read everything. When exactly I'll get this stuff up well...I have no idea. SOON hopefully. Until then, sorry!
Here's the revised prologue, tell me what you think:
Broken
By Kathryn Wilson
All of Broken is mine. All the characters and the storyline are created by me and me alone. Please don't steal them or my story.
Also, I rated this story PG-13 because I began writing it at 14 so I figure anyone over 13 should be able to handle it. Let me know if I should change it to R.
Prologue
She sat next to the horse that had meant so much to her, as a single tear trickled down her cheek. Slowly she removed the worn leather hat from her head; a few strands of soft blonde hair fell across her forehead. Her hand trembled as it she set it gently on the chestnut mare's jaw. This girl had been the last thing the animal had seen before it took its final breath and closed its eyes forever.
The horse that lay before the girl had a light flaxen mane and tail, and a chestnut colored coat. She'd once glowed gold in the sunlight. Now her coat had become dull. But in that girls eyes... all she saw was the glow, all she saw was the beauty, all she saw was her best friend and the only thing that kept her hanging on.
The mare's eyes were closed and her body relaxed, as if she'd finally found peace. The first sign that something was even the slightest bit wrong began almost a whole year before, and was when the horse began breathing hard and sucking in air, which started out as if the horse was 'whistling', a common bad habit. But it wasn't until the mare's ear stopped functioning completely that the girl learned of a growing tumor in her beloved animal's ear. Unfortunately, due to the position of this tumor, the vet could do nothing to prevent or prolong the mare's life. A few months earlier half of the beautiful animal's face began to suffer from paralysis. By her last day, that half was completely paralyzed.
Now the animal lay before her owner, companion, and friend...forever at peace, and the world seemed to fade and time no longer existed. It was just the girl with her horse, lost in the pain of loosing the things that truly mattered: life and love.
How long she'd sat there, she didn't know, but her legs and feet were numb and her fingers were stiff from clenching the rim of her hat. Her hair danced about her ears in the warm night breeze of early summer, yet it sent shivers down her spine and up her arms. Tears had left streaked lines down her cheeks, which even the warm breeze seemed to freeze on her skin.
She'd shone no sign as to the deep wound that had been slashed into her heart, nearly severing the two halves. But now...the few strings that held her together were gone. Victoria had been what had kept her from falling apart and now she was gone.
Slowly she got to her feet, her knees weak and shaky, and blew a final kiss to her faithful and loving companion. With that she departed, with the slow, heavy steps of a young woman loosing her only friend and the only grip she had left on life.
