The Flag
by: Trista Groulx

The flag stands at attention in the wind
Silently surveying the situation below it
Never knowing the horrors brought in its name
Never seeing the unhappiness carried out in its name
Simply standing at attention in the wind
Falling sometime, but the wind takes it again
It cannot see what happens in its name
The horror, the suffering, the sadness
All in the name of the nation the flag represents
Why does nationalism represent war?
Why does war represent nationalism?
All in the name of a silly fluttering flag
All in the name of the country it represents
