Chapter 13

Several weeks after the duel, Aubrey and Vincent stood in the graveyard kissing gently.

They had both healed most of the way from the ordeal, and each had regained their strength.

"Hey." a voice said from nearby.

The two broke off reluctantly and turned to face Kale and Karen, slipping their hands into each other's back pockets.

"Sorry to interrupt," Kale said, "but we're leaving now. We found a train and we're taking it."

"Where's it going?"

"We don't know." Karen laughed, "We're just getting out."

"Understandable." Vincent said.

"We just thought we should thank you both for the sacrifices you made." Kale said, offering his hand.

The pairs exchanged handshakes and then the rest of the pack came from different directions. They stood and all the wolves bowed respectfully to Aubrey and Vincent.

"No thanks necessary. I did it for my health." Aubrey laughed.

Vincent looked at her incredulously and she said, "One of those types of humor you don't get, isn't it?"

"I guess so."

"Anyway, this is goodbye." Dimitra said.

"Goodbye then, and good luck." Vincent said.

"Exactly, and try not to get into any trouble wherever you end up." Aubrey agreed.

The pack left in the direction of the train station and Aubrey and Vincent went to the catacombs.

When they arrived at the bottom of the steps, Vincent and Aubrey noticed that most of the vampires were standing there with suitcases or bags or boxes.

"Where are you going?"

"There aren't enough people for so many hunters." one of them said.

"That's true, but it could work." Vincent replied.

"This city is not big enough for all of us. We can make a new life now, thanks to Aubrey."

"Then go." Vincent conceded, truly seeing their point, but sad that he was losing so many friends.

The vampires left, each shaking hands with for embracing both Vincent and Aubrey.

They were rounding the corner to the hall leading to Aubrey's bedroom when they saw Atrius and Laura kissing and yet another suitcase.

"What?" Vincent asked, "Everyone is leaving me."

"Only for a while. We kind of think we're falling in love, so we decided to give it a try." Atrius said.

"Yeah. We'll be back once we've figured out how it works with a wolf and a vampire." Laura said.

"The same as with everyone else, hopefully." Aubrey said.

"Well, as long as you do come back. I can't manage this coven by myself you know."

"You aren't going to. You have her now. You'll be fine."

"Goodbye then?" Aubrey asked.

"Goodbye." Atrius and Laura both bowed, then left the catacombs, Atrius holding the suitcase.

Aubrey opened her door and they went inside.

They kissed passionately for a while, then Vincent broke it off.

"Hey, are you sure you want to get to know me?" he asked playfully.

"Hmmm....maybe. I could use a bit more convincing." Aubrey said.

They lay on the bed, entranced in the world they created each time their lips touched.
