Rules to the World

The star of consistency shines down on you and I tonight.

I got a call

from the emergency room,

they told me that you had broken you're spirit

so of course I rushed over.

I was once a whole package

and you the bow that wrapped me so tightly

What's happened to me

As I listen to old music

and the strong herb of tobacco fills the air.

That's right

I almost forgot

all boys are broken

someone left them

forced them

took them

kept them

but never bettered them.

As a woman I can ask myself

what went wrong here?

And my motherly instincts

came out

as though they were a companion to myself

as thunder

is to lightning

I held him close to my firey skin

and really listened.
