Sitting on the floor in their cramped dorm, late one Sunday night, Elizabeth and Kate were working together on a large research experiment for their forensics class. Papers, books, and gum wrappers were scattered around the place, and a computer was sitting on the floor next to them.

"This doesn't make any sense," Kate complained, falling onto her back and burying her head in her hands. Elizabeth rubbed her eyes and shifted her papers.

"Maybe we should skip this tonight. we'll work more on it tomorrow. We'll skip our 3:00 class to go to the library."

Hearing no response, Elizabeth looked up at her friend to see that Kate had fallen asleep. She sighed and threw a blanket on top of her, and wandered off to the bathroom. The two friends had been through their first year at Harvard, and things were anything but easy. The dorm the shared had a living room and kitchen that was really one big room, a bedroom with two twin beds barely squeezed in, and a small bathroom. They obviously weren't very well off, financially.

Looking at her reflection in the mirror, Elizabeth marveled at how different she looked from a year ago. Nearly 20 years old, her face itself had matured very much in two years. She had given up on contacts a few months after starting college, for lack of time. They just weren't worth the hassle. Instead she wore thin reading glasses that added to her librarian look. She constantly wore her straighthair pinned back, simply to keep it out of her eyes.

After brushing her teeth and washing her face, Elizabeth crashed onto her bed, clothes still on and radio playing in the distant background. She listened to it playing songs she didn't recognize for a while, slowly drifting off. She hadn't listened to the radio for months now, and had lost track of what was popular and what wasn't in music land.

"And now, our most requested song of the week," the female announcer's voice said, "The adorable Jon Moy, with 'These Moments.'!"

Elizabeth, who was 99% asleep upon hearing this, bolted straight upright. Jon Moy. Jon. Her Jon. It couldn't be! Moy is a pretty common name, she told herself, as is Jon. I'm sure it's not him. But she didn't at all convince herself, because as soon as the song came on, she knew for a fact it was her Jon.

Elizabeth's eyes were overly wide, but she had to admit, it was to be expected. She had always believed he would become famous, and had constantly dreamed of walking down the red carpet, on her Jon's arm, as his wife.

Elizabeth drifted off to sleep to the voice of her former boyfriend's voice, surrounded in dreams she hadn't had in over a year.

The next day was as normal as any for Elizabeth and Kate- until lunch that is. They and a few girlfriends decided to go to McDonalds and eat there, like they always did when they were too lazy to cook their own food.

"This cheese is all. mushy. That's so gross! And. EW! This meat is half pink and half blackish! I can't believe you guys talked me into eating here." Kate commented, looking at her burger.

"Stop dissecting your food Kate, and just eat," a woman named Lindsay said. Kate's look at her suggested that Lindsay was mentally unwell. Everyone else at the table chuckled.

"So did you guys hear about that trial observation?" asked Kaisy, one of the more shy girls in the group. When she saw no recognition, she added, "Our court law professor is taking a few of us who are interested to watch some trial coming up. Are any of you going to come?"

The woman all muttered something about not having time, or not needing the glanced at Kate, who shrugged.

"We'll go," she told Kaisy.

"Yeah," Elizabeth and I will go," Kate added. Kaisy smiled and said, "Awesome, It'll be so much fun!"

"Yeah, fun."

As everyone sat around the table chatting, Elizabeth casually asked, "So, have any of you heard that new song by Jon Moy?" Kate's head shot up from her burger, giving Elizabeth a bewildered look. Elizabeth shook her head, silently willing Kate not to say anything. None of their new college friends new about Jon.

"Do you really think we have time to listen to that sort of thing, Elizabeth?" asked Lindsay. Most of the others shook their heads in agreement.

"I have," muttered Kaisy, one of the more shy girls in the group, "I'm a pretty big Jon Moy fan. I've wanted to meet him for months now, and I simply adore his new song. Are you a fan too?"

Elizabeth stared at her for a few seconds. The reality of this statement seemed to send pain through Elizabeth's heart. Kate was staring at Elizabeth, eyes wide.

"I'll be right back," mumbled Elizabeth, rising and walking towards the bathroom. Inside she began to cry her eyes out once again.

She did miss him so much, just like she had predicted over a year ago.
