Author's Note: This was a poem I wrote for 10th grade English. Inspired by my experiences on the shores of Lake Ontario in New York.

Sunrise By The Lake
The sun is just beginning to rise
The birds are just beginning to wake
Barefoot I walk down the stone steps
Resting for a moment beside the lake
The cool waters flow between my toes
The sun climbs higher in the sky
I feel its warmth upon my back
And I spot a fish swimming nearby
The lake is as smooth as glass
So I toss in a small stone
The water ripples, annoyed by this disturbance
And the fish swims off towards home
