All Along Chapter 1- Unwanted attention By: KNE

Summary: Neely Donovan isn't interested in the whole popularity ordeal, considering that her twin brother was one of the hottest guys that attended their school. But, things begin to stir when the guy she's falling for is not only THE most popular boy, but her brother's best friend. Life becomes harder when the guy is also wanted by everyone else.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------

Chris Donovan was considered one of the hottest guys that attended Clemington High School. And HE was my twin brother. Now, don't think that I'm the lucky girl who has the popular brother, but think of me as the shadow of my 'oh-so-great-twin'. Every girl loved him, and half the girls wanted him. Me.I was always known as, "Chris's sister." Not that I really cared that he was so popular, in fact Chris and I were pretty good siblings.

Sure, we had our bad days.but as twins, we had that CONNECTION thingy. Both of us shared emerald green eyes that people always say they loved. I had long brown hair, while his hair was more of a dirty blonde shaggy cut style. I had always hated it, but most girls tend to love it, and boy.was Chris conceited. He was the typical jock, soccer, basketball, and baseball. He was put into sports before he even know what they were. When I was younger, my mother decided piano and volleyball would work for me, and I've stuck with it since. But wasn't it just luck that one of the Donovan twins turned out to be such a star.

Hmmm..

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------

"Wake up lazy ass.." I heard the familiar grumble of my brother, using his feet to wake me up. That meant that I had probably fallen off the bed again. I covered my face with the pillow and groaned. Oh, how I hate school.

"Five more minutes." I said, turning my back towards Chris. I heard a sigh and then footsteps leaving the bedroom. Ha. I smiled to myself and curled myself up. Guess it's true about how the older you get the more sleep you need. My comfortable atmosphere suddenly turned iced cold, when I felt the wet and freezing water hit my skin. "What the." I sat up quickly, only to stare up at Chris holding an empty paper cup over my head. He grinned while I glared. "You bastard! Get out!" I screamed, sitting up and wiping the water from my neck.

Chris shrugged lazily and turned towards the door. "It's 7:30 by the way, hurry your ass up, or me and Devon are leaving without you." My eyes widened, and then turned to the digital clock on my bedside table.

"7:30! Chris, why didn't you wake me up earlier!!!" I threw a pillow at him, before he disappeared behind the door frame.

"You missed!" I heard him shout, before I sprinted towards my bathroom. One thing I hated and dreaded most was being late for Mr. Swissher's class. Detention's were horrible, and they always seemed to enjoy torturing me. I quickly brushed my teeth and ran a comb through my hair. Make up would have to be done in the car, if Chris could drive right. Throwing on comfortable jeans and a red t-shirt I got for donating blood, I dashed towards the stairs. Chris and Devon stood at the bottom of the stairs staring at the watch on Chris's wrist.

"3.2.1." they both glanced up at me, panting and staring at them. Somehow the look in their eyes made me confused.

"Good morning sunshine," Devon grinned up at me. I stomped down the stairs and grabbed Chris's wrist and stared at the watch.

"It's 5:30!" I shouted, looking back at the two dorks. "You changed my clock!" I managed to slap Chris on the arm before he stumbled back laughing. Devon had backed away himself and was stifling a laugh.

"It was the only way to get you up," Chris said. I stared at him dumbfound as he gave Devon a high five.

"What are you talking about?"

"We have morning practice," Devon said, running a hand through his hair. I cringed. It was so unfair that the car had to belong to Chris, and the fact that I hate the bus made it worst. So morning practice meant, I had to be dragged along.

"Fuck you." I said, turning towards Devon. "Both of you!" I turned around and stomped back upstairs to grab my purse. The only answer I received was the two idiots snickering constantly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------

I pulled my hands into the sleeve of my hoodie, and hugged my knees in the back of the car.

"How can you be cold? It's the middle of fall," Chris said, looking back at me. I ignored him and looked out the window, as we passed the familiar buildings. I heard my brother snort, and turned back to face the street.

"What did coach say about Michaels? Is he out for the rest of the season?" Chris asked Devon as he rested his left elbow on the window ledge.

"He bruised his knee pretty bad and we only have like what..3 games left?"

"So who's going to start as left mid?" Chris asked. "It can't be Bill, the guy can run forever but he can't do anything with the ball. We're fucked, pisses the hell outta me." My brother and his profane vocabulary, I couldn't help but grin.

"What about Mitchells?" I asked, leaning into their conversation. Devon glanced back at me.

"Mitchells is pretty good. He's got a good follow up.." Devon started. "But stamina.."

"Why doesn't the coach move Chris to play left mid, and put Mitchells as forward?"

"Because forward is my position, moron," Chris spat. I shrugged.

"Just throwing out some possibilities." The soccer conversation ended as we arrived at the school parking lot of Clemington High. Only a few faculty cars were parked around. Devon was out first. He made his way to the trunk of the car and pulled out his duffle bag. I lazily sighed, and dragged myself out of the car.

"What are you going to do?" Devon asked, throwing his things over his shoulder, and picking up the soccer ball.

"Watch.I guess?" I shook my head, and stared back at Chris who had just slammed the trunk of the car. The three of us made our way towards the field, where we spotted a few of Clemington High's varsity soccer team members. I walked myself up the small bleachers and sat down, while my brother and Devon sat down and proceeded to put on their gear.

I yawned and pulled out a book out from my bag. I guess catching up on my reading wouldn't be so bad. I leaned back and flipped to the first page.

"Hey Neely," Devon asked, looking up at me. I peeked over my book with a questioning face. "Can you go to the vending machine and get me a bottle of water?"

"Get me one too!" Chris called up, as he tied his shoelaces. I took a few seconds to glare at Chris and then closed my book. I stood up and made my way down the bleachers once again. Devon grinned and handed me two dollars.

"Thanks sleeping beauty," he smiled, referring to the earlier incident. I raised an eyebrow.

"Whatever," I mumbled, annoyed at the fact that I will probably be Chris and Devon's slave forever.

I was only a few feet away when I heard Chris yell, "Ice Mountain!" That brother of mine, I glanced back and caught the wave of Devon, while Chris continually yelled Ice Mountain so that I wouldn't forget. I turned back around only to face a group of three girls heading towards the soccer field. I winced. Two blondes and One brunette. Casey Craig, Emma Rose and Trista Rowen. And of course they were the three biggest bitches in our school. Popular and beautiful all in one.

They smiled devilishly as they approached me. Emma had her blonde locks up in a pony tail, and she looked as peppy as ever. "Hi Neely, is your brother here yet?" she asked, with a huge smile on her face. I just stared and then nodded my head. Trista smiled and looked over my shoulder.

"Then they're both here then!" I mentally groaned and looked back at them. I couldn't be rude now, could I?

"What are you guys doing here?" I asked, my eyes trailed to the biggest bitch of them all. Casey. Casey was the kind of girl where it made you wonder why the hell such a pretty face had such and ugly heart. Casey didn't answer but just gave me one of her annoying smiles.

"Oh, we're here to cheer on Devon and Chris," Emma said. My jaw dropped and I glanced back to where Devon and Chris were sitting.

"You guys woke up at 5:30, to come cheer for them?" Casey somehow, had the brains of the trio and caught on to the tone of my voice.

"3:30 actually." she said walking pass me, "We to do our hair and makeup." The other two girls followed their witch towards the soccer field and I proceeded towards the vending machine. I laughed at how stupid people were these days. I mean, I was here pretty early too, but if I had a choice I would probably still be sleeping on the floor dreaming of flowers and bees. But most girls were like this, basically because of Chris Donovan and Devon Matthews, the two most popular guys..ever.

Devon and Chris had been friends since the eighth grade, so I was pretty used to seeing Devon at my house everyday. The two were like..brothers, inseparable brothers who made me miserable at times. And it just so happens that these two best friends turned out to be the hottest boys too. I really thought fate did well at this in crowd thing. Devon had dark hair, unlike Chris, and he had icy blue eyes. I gently patted my left cheek to wake me up as I carried the water back out to the soccer field.

I already saw three of the Barbie dolls surround Chris and Devon as they stood at the side lines of the soccer field. I laughed as I saw the rest of the team stare at them, jealousy written across their face. Chris was boringly nodding his head to Trista and Emma's squealing, while Devon chatted happily with Casey. If those three girls were going to watch, I might as well head inside the school and find something else to keep me busy. I looked back at Chris and Devon, to now see Chris basically look like he was dying of pain. He too hated the three girls.

"Neely!" I heard Devon shout as he pushed passed Casey and jogged towards me. I held up his water bottle as he stopped in front of me, and I dropped it into his arms.

"Thanks." he mumbled. I nodded my head and walked passed him to toss the other water bottle to Chris.

"What took you so long?" Devon asked from behind me. I glanced at him.

"What do you mean what took me so long? I was only gone for like ten minutes." I said, scratching my head.

"Oh." We reached Chris and the three girls. Chris was still surrounded by the two non-stop talking girls, but again my eyes trailed to Casey. She looked like she was glaring at me. What a bitch. I shook my head and tossed Chris his water bottle and headed for the bleachers. Guess it was time to leave, and take my place somewhere far from here. I grabbed my bag and turned to walk down the bleachers.

"Bye Neely!" Trista shouted, while Emma waved goodbye. I gave them a quick smile. They were only nice to me because I was a Donovan. It was just too fake.

"You're going already? I thought you were going to watch?" Devon asked, still staring at me with his blue eyes.

"Yeah..Neely, I thought you were going to be our water girl!" Chris shouted. I would have smacked him hard if his lovesick fans weren't around.

"Nah. I'll pass. I remembered I have some homework I didn't finish." I waved goodbye and stalked off before anyone else could ask me a lame question.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------

It was finally lunch. My favorite hour of the day, because it was far from the subject of learning. Unless you call, learning how to order your food a lesson. I took my seat next to my good friend Allison Hart, a bubbly character girl. She was also on the volleyball team and pretty big on the issue of gossip.

"Hey Neely, you still have that shirt?" I glanced down at my red Blood Drive shirt, and nodded.

"It was only from last year." I said. Allison shrugged and took a bite out of her sandwich. "What do you think they're talking about?" she asked, nodding her heads towards the corner of the cafeteria. I turned my head and saw the familiar face of Chris, Devon and a whole bunch of girls and guys laughing. I shrugged.

"Beats me. Sports, I guess?" I started peeling my orange as Allison continued to look at the corner table.

"Your brother is sooo hott," she said, blushing.

"Thank you, it's great to know that, Allison.." My sarcasm made her sigh and the rest her chin on her arm.

"I mean I can never tell who's hotter. Devon or Chris. Either one of them would do. You're so lucky to be related to Chris." I scrunched up my nose.

"What is THAT supposed to mean?" I asked. Allison giggled.

"I mean, Devon comes to your house like every day right?" I shrugged.

"Yeah, but I've known that guy forever. If you know the Devon and Chris that I know."

"Yeah yeah yeah, but I don't, so I have every right think they are sweet!" I rubbed the spot between my eyes and then smile.

"Anyways, what's new?" I said, changing the subject. Allison shrugged, and then her face lit up.

"Who are you going to the winter dance with?" I bit my lip and shrugged.

"I don't think I'm going.."

"Stop Neely!" Allison, slammed her hands on the table, making a very loud noise. The cafeteria grew quiet for about a second as they looked over at our table, and then turned back to talk to their friends. I looked around and caught the eye of Chris and Devon who were secretly laughing at how embarrassed I look. I rolled my eyes at them and looked back at Allison.

"What?" I demanded, lowering myself. Allison lowered her voice.

"You can't do that! This is the last winter dance for us. You have to go!"

"No I don't! I've never gone to any of the dances so why do I have to go to this one?" I shook my head, and popped an orange slice in my mouth.

"Exactly why you have to go this year!" Allison leaned in closer. "It's senior year, and you have to make it the best!" I sighed. Allison could get agitating if she set her heart on something.

"It's not like anyone is going to ask me, and it would be stupid to go alone." Allison's eyes widened.

"That's not true! Last year, that hot senior Mike Lewis asked you and you turned him down. And not only did Mike Lewis asked you, but that really cool guy that I had a crush on freshman year asked you too! Then sophomore year, a whole bunch of guys asked you didn't they?"

"I think you're exaggerating, Allison.."

"Neely! You've got to go this year. Someone will ask you, you're soooo pretty!" I blushed at her comment.

"What are you talking about? Pretty?" I laughed, and pushed my food away. "Chris got the looks of the family, not me.." Allison practically slammed her hands down on the table again.

"What are YOU talking about? Your gorgeous Neely! Everyone always talks about how you and Chris look so good. I mean your eyes! Your hair! Your body! If I had curves like that."

"Allison, that's enough."

"Neely! I know there are plenty of guys who have secret crushes on you." I laughed and leaned back on my chair, and then folded my arms across my chest.

"Like who?"

"Like me," a deep male voice answered, making me and Allison both look up at the same time. He was a good looking boy, with blonde spike hair and blue eyes. I noticed that he had a flannel shirt on. The boy sat down on the chair next to me and smiled. I just stared back, still getting over the shock of hearing what he had just said. Allison was probably drooling at the moment, but I wasn't going to lose the battle of the stare down. The guy was Aiden McAdams, star quarterback of the Clemington. He too, had his own little fan club just like Chris and Devon.

"Can I help you?" I asked, raising an eyebrow finally. Aiden grinned stretched his arms over his head.

"Just felt like saying hello.." He said.

"Well, hello," I said, turning back to Allison, who was indeed staring wide eyed.

"Hi Aiden!" Allison squealed. Aiden acknowledged her presence and then turned back to look at me.

"Is there anything else?" I asked again.

"I wanted to see if you and your friend wanted to come sit by me and my friends.." he said nodding towards another table, filled with the football players. They waved at Allison and I, but I was unimpressed.

"It's alright, we're fine!" I said. "But thanks anyways." Aiden seemed a bit shock, and he sat up straighter.

"Oh..you sure?" he asked.

"Yup." Aiden ran a hand through his gelled hair.

"Um.I'm Aiden McAdams by the way.." he said, sticking out his hand for me to shake. I took it and smiled back again.

"Neely Donovan."

"Yeah, I know who you are. You're in my physics class."

"I am?" I pulled my hand away and thought back through the people who were in my class. He was!

"Yeah. So I was wondering..."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------

Chris ran his hand through his hair and laughed at the nasty joke that was just told. He picked up his coke can took a sip.

"So Donovan, Trista Rowen has been hanging around you a lot lately. You two have some chemistry or something?" Someone spoke up. Chris mentally groaned. He also referred to her as the whore with the dark hair.

"Nah." Chris rubbed his eyes, a bit irritated. Couldn't they talk about sports or something, why girls? Just because he was hott, he wasn't always thinking the nasty. Trista Rowen was hott, but she was too much of a ditz to waste time making out with. Cody, the goalie of his soccer team glanced over his shoulder and smiled.

"Donovan, is your sis seeing anyone?"

Chris's head snapped up. "How the hell do I know?" Actually he did know. Neely wouldn't date anyone for the world.at least now.

"She's so god damn hott," someone else spoke up, making him cringe. He looked to see a his buddy, Jason staring at Neely. "Dude, you are so lucky!" Again Chris cringed.

"What is THAT supposed to mean?" Chris asked.

"I was talking to Devon, moron.." Jason said, looking at Devon, who had quieted down. "I mean he goes to your house like every day right? He probably sees her in her underwear or something." Chris picked up his rolled up paper bag and chucked it at Jason. The whole table laughed together.

"Dude, she's my sister!" Devon grinned and then ruffled his hair. Jason fixed the collar of shirt and looked at the girls sitting around the table listening to the conversation.

"So Matthews, you still going to ask that girl to the winter dance, or something?" That got the girl's attention. They all leaned in.

"Devon! Who??"

"What girl?"

"Devon!" Chris glanced at Devon who had shrunk back a little. Jason leaned in himself.

"So who's the girl, Matthews?" Devon shrugged.

"Can't say." he said coolly.

"Is she hott?" Devon snorted and leaned back on his chair.

"Fuck off, Jason," Chris said. The team laughed, but the girls still questioned Devon. He always looked nervous when he was on this issue. Chris knew it. Devon had never told him who this mystery girl was either. Every year since high school, Devon had always wanted to ask THIS girl to the winter dance. But it never came through and he always ended up bringing some chick. This year he'll probably end up taking Casey.

"But anyways, Donovan." Jason said still glancing over his shoulder. "I think I'm planning on asking Neely, if that's alright with you." As if on queue, a loud clanking sound made the whole cafeteria shut up. Chris's eyes traveled to his twin's table, where she sat with a red head. He couldn't help but laugh, he could feel Devon shaking next to him.

Neely looked totally embarrassed, as she tried to cover her face. She glanced behind her shoulder and looked at him.

"Did you hear me?" Jason asked louder. Chris looked up and cleared his throat.

"What?"

"I'm asking Neely to the winter dance."

"Not my problem.."

"Although she probably won't go." Devon spoke up, picking up his Pepsi can. Jason narrowed his eyes.

"And why the hell not?" Devon shrugged again.

"She never goes. And even if she did, it would never be with you." Chris smiled coolly at the comment. Jason and Devon never really did get well. Oh well, if a fight was on, then he might as well get ready. Jason stood up.

"You better be kidding around, Matthews. It's not like you're any better!" Devon smirked.

"Watch me." Jason, who had THE shortest temper snorted. "Matthews, you're dead..you hear me?" Devon sighed and nodded.

"Calm down Jason, he was joking," A blonde spoke up, making Chris's muscles cool down. Fighting wasn't really the best solution. He couldn't afford to be suspended senior year. Yawning, Chris turned to look at Devon, only to find him staring intensely straight ahead. Chris followed his gaze and watched as it landed on Neely's table. Chris himself froze.

"What the hell..?" Chris heard himself say, before he heard Devon swear.

"McAdams.." Devon said, looking at Chris.

"He better be expecting a 'no'," Chris said, standing up and making his way towards Neely.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------

I watched as Aiden smiled and stood up from the orange seat.

"I'll see you around then." he said. Yup, maybe if I ever look for you. My thoughts diverted back to my physics class. Was Aiden McAdams really in my physics class? Since when?

"Oh my god, I can't believe he just asked you out!" Allison squealed, grabbing my hand. "And you said NO!" I groaned.

"I wasn't in the mood to be asked out."

"By a hottie??"

"What? I'm a hottie?" I heard, once again the all too familiar tone of my twin. Chris sat down in the seat where Aiden had sat. I heard Allison squeal again, this time the pitch was ten times higher.

"What do you want, loser?" I asked, sipping my grape juice. And of course, the family couldn't be complete without the other loser. Devon made his way and sat next to Allison.

"Yeah.what did McAdams want?" Devon asked. I glared at him.

"It's none of your business, moron. Go chase some girls or something." It was really getting irritating how everyone was trying to get into my business. I turned back to my half eaten orange. I didn't even have an appetite anymore.

"Whoa. Don't PMS on me now." Chris said, raising his hands in defeat.

"Fuck off!" I hissed.

"Neely, what did he want?" Devon asked again. I faced Devon once more.

"Nothing." I said slowly. "Now will you two please leave me alone? Please?" I glanced from Devon to Chris. "Please?" Chris sighed.

"Not till you tell us what the jack ass wanted." I groaned, they would never leave me alone.

"He asked Neely out," Allison said, making all of us turn to face her. That girl..was dead.

"WHAT?" both Chris and Devon shouted.

"But I said no. Now leave." I stood up and grabbed my lunch. I knew that the Chris hated the football players. There were only a few he actually talked to, and I was sure Aiden was not on that list. The two were like competing morons. It really wasn't like them to actually come and talk to me during lunch so I shrugged and made the best of it.

Chris and Devon were way too popular for my sake. I was just me, nothing special nothing all that great. And Allison was sure making a big deal out of everything. Telling me I was pretty. Now I found that hilarious. I know I wasn't hideous, but I wasn't gorgeous like the three Barbies. I didn't care too much about the latest style (unlike my sibling) or did I care what other people thought of me (the only thing I probably had in common with Chris).

Grabbing my backpack, I made an early start towards my next class.

"Neely!" I heard my name being called. I groaned, stopping midway in the hall. Everyone was on my damn case!

"Yes?" I lazily asked, turning to face Devon. He jogged down to me and handed me my shiny black notebook. I surprisingly stared at it. "What?"

"You forgot it," he muttered. I took it from his hands.

"Thanks," I mumbled, looking at him. Devon grinned.

"Well, can't help being a klutz, can you?" He patted the top of my head like a dog, and turned around back towards the cafeteria. I grinned.

"Hey Dev." I started.

"Yeah?" Devon turned around and faced me.

"You're a dickhead." Devon grinned and then laughed.

"Yeah yeah." he shouted and then walked away. "I'll be seeing you around!" I watched as the idiot disappeared around the corner, and then started towards my English class. The winter dance was a month away and already everyone was so worked up about it, even though homecoming had just ended. I shook my head.

"This outta be great."

Well review, and thanks for reading! Lots of dialogue, right??
