Author's notes: This poem is about a Drow and a human's love for eachother, and is based on a novel I am currently writing.

HAPPY ENDING

To fall
To love
To cry
To die

We are attracted to their intensity
They are attracted to our dark mystery

That's what makes it
Easy to fall
Easy to love
Easy to cry
Easy to die

This love is not forbidden;
It doesn't have to be
It is merely suicidal

It doesn't take a genius to realize our lifespans are incompatible
Although lovesick fools don't realize it
It doesn't take a sorcerer to tell us that age is inexorable
Although we Drow often forget it
And humans often forget it applies to us differently

This love is not forbidden;
It doesn't have to be
It is merely suicidal

But...
Since when are we afraid of heartbreak?
Since when are we governed by pain?

No pain, no gain!

Although it's human nature to fight on when it's futile,
Can we not match their senseless bravery? stubbornness?

Which is better?
To have loved and lost?
Or to have cowered in the shadow of his life, too afraid to love him in the first place?

Easy to fall in love
Easy to love a human
Easy to cry in shame
Easy to die in pain

Fall into the trap

On the road of love, one does not need to worry
About the bridges of old age and death quite yet

Forget about species;
That's not important
Forget about lifespans;
Enjoy love while you still can

Make the most of your love,
Cultivate it

Easy to fall
Easy to hate
Easy to lie
Easy to die

On the road of love, worry about the roadblocks of jealousy and habit;
They draw near
THEY are the danger
You'll cross old age and death when you come to them

Humans live in the now
We tend to live too much in the future
Is it too much to ask to live in the present?

I have fallen into the trap
I will make the most of it
I will cross the roadblocks of jealousy and habit
And cross old age and death when I come to them

I am prepared to deal with grief
I am prepared to recover from that grief

I will not fear pain

My love story will have a happy ending
