Prowling, scowling
Mewing, whining
Circling, clawing
Glaring with baleful eyes
Emaciated, hissing
Puffed ribs show through fur
Claws clatter eagerly
Across scorching pavement
In pursuit of prey
Under the harsh glare
Of headlights
The purring of an engine
Grows louder
And with a thud
Tires slam into
The cat
Scraping away
Tattered fur
The sound of snapping bones
Through the tense silence
But life goes on
A vulture swoops down
To dine upon the remnants
Of the former predator
