The trees no more hold branches high
In adoration to the sky
No bud, no branch, no leaf is seen
The city has forsaken green

Grass and flower chased away
The tarmac streets are here to stay
Soot-black houses and busy roads
Have trees and rivers overthrown

And I could weep and I could cry
To see pollution shroud the sky
Each star is choked, I much doubt
The city ever sees them out

In a land besieged by acid rain
The flowers try to grow in vain
Humans load Earth on Her pier
As reverence for her world expires
