She wished for the night

The night appealed to her,

Its shadows,

Its possibilities.

Its darkness that hides from the eyes

From the mind

A fallen petal gleamed in her hand

She stood between the colors of summer flowers

He heard her hum, a sad and haunting melody

A voice for midnight tears and lonely nights

Heard the tears in her voice

A dreamer, he thought

And dreamers dream as their heart longs and waits

For the heart that had loved and lost

The last melody hung in the air

He watched the shadows on her face

Brought by sadness

She gently laid her head on his shoulder

Held on to the strength of him

His heart trembled, sighed

Lost the battle

He didn't even knew he was waging

And there they stayed, in the garden
