~Midnight Stroll~

Dark figures loom over me,
Shielding me from the light of the moon.
Casting their strange shadows
That glide restlessly across the earth.

Leaves snap beneath my feet,
The sound echoes through the darkness.
Then slowly fades away
To be swallowed by the silent night.

A chill wind tears past,
To the applause of dead, gnarled hands,
Letting light shine down
From the starless moonlit sky.

Lampposts break the monotony,
Flickering along the endless path.
Beckoning the wanderer
And lighting the way to eternity.
