Turned Away

A simple smile was all I wanted
But, yet you turned me away
All I needed was for you to be happy
But, yet I only made you cry

We held each other under the sunset
We smiled with hands held
Our fingers were intertwined
Our love and heartache combined

We helped each other through our trials
And started living our rightful youth
Alcohol and blood became our enemy
Love became our addiction

Winter's cold took new root
And planted numbness in our hearts
Love became the lie we shunned
Life became a forgotten memory

A simple smile was all I wanted
All I needed was for you to be happy
But, the sun has set and the tides have changed
And you turned me away
