My sensei.. Dead.. Laying before me.. I'm kneeling now he's in my
arms. I say his name over and over in my head, simply wishing. praying.
begging for him to still be alive, but the long cuts up the veins on his
arms had long since stopped bleeding. I think back to everything he had
taught me about medicine, but there wasn't anything that I knew of that
could bring someone back from the dead..
His body is so cold. I hold him closer trying in vain to warm his corps. Tears are streaming down my face now. "I love you." I whisper to his lifeless body. "Please don't leave me" I'm torn away from him, my arms pinned to the wall on either side of me.
"Meko Kagamishi," a voice began naming the sentence for my crimes. I shake my head not listening; I didn't want to hear his words. A flask is put to my lips and I am forced to drink every last drop of the bright red liquid inside. I cry out in agony realizing what it is. It was my loves blood. my Kou.. My family had killed him. I collapse to my knees, as they release me, and I cover my face with my hands completely sub coming to sobs...
Meko's eyes snapped open and she sat up in bed. No longer did the stone walls of a great hall in a mountain keep surround her, but the walls of her own room in a land far from Japan. "Just a dream" she pants placing a hand on her cheek. Tears greeted her there, and she franticly wiped them away. The sad truth was that had been no dream. Kou had really lived. He had been her sensei, her teacher of the martial arts, but their relationship had grown much greater than that.
She had been so bold as to fall in love with the young human. Even though she knew that her senseis never lived past the age of thirty. She had never found out why, she never cared, she was always given a new one the next day. But when Kou's thirtieth birthday drew near she realized she wanted him to live.
Meko had tried biting him, but his body refused the change and he remained human. That didn't bother her about the future, they would try again if he lived, but they didn't have enough time before his death. He tried running away, but even with Meko's help he didn't get far before he was captured.
A day before his birthday Meko did the unthinkable; she went to her father and besieged him to let her love live. Naturally he had been furious and ordered that they not be allowed to see each other before Kou's slow and painful death.
Meko shook her head clearing away the memories. It had been nearly 262 years her lover's violent death still haunted her. She pushed the blankets off her and got out of bed. The door swung open and Meko glared at it with blind eyes in slight irritation.
"Hey Meko- oh good, your already up." Shae said her soft voice full of fake happiness, "The banquet's going to start in fours hours"
"OK, thanks" Meko nodded.
"See you then" Meko heard the door close as Shae left her in peace. Meko knew that Shae was sad. maybe even lonesome, but Shae always covered it up with her sunny non-vampirick disposition, so others never even suspected.
Meko dressed quickly in her outfit that seemed strange to the American vampires she stayed with. She wore the button up shirt and pleated skirt of a Japanese school girl. Tariq would be angry if she was to dress so casual to the celebration but for the moment she didn't care.
