Alone in the darkness a scared child stands,
Fear plain on its face as they question why,
It cowers in terror, blood on its hands,
More worried about reasons, then its innocent cry.

They get no response so they leave with a sigh,
But then comes a stranger and slowly he sits,
With a creaking of joints no longer spry,
He just sits there silent, then smiles at it.

"I used to be you, I cried a fair bit,
I'd hide in the darkness, just like you do,
I'd wipe off the blood, and just want to quit,
I know how it feels, for I felt it too."

With these last words he patted his head.
"It all gets better, after we're dead."
