A Light in the Darkness

Disclaimer: I did not write Silent Night, but I used excerpts from the song in this one. It was not used for personal profit, but because I'm fond of the traditional Christmas favorite and it goes well with the plot.

In her dull, murky basement,
By the dim light of a single lamp,
A girl plays her piano,
The song rings through the darkness and damp,
Her life is far from perfect,
But her talent will take her away,
From all the stress and burdens,
She had put up with throughout the day.

And the cold air kissed her cheeks,
And the tears poured from her eyes,
As she played…

Silent night,
Holy night,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Upstairs they fought and bantered,
She could hear her mother yell and shriek,
Screaming at her young brothers,
But she did not dare to take a peek,
They were on the verge of violence,
And the girl didn't know what to do,
So she sat down on her bench,
And played her favorite song all the way through.

And the cold air kissed her cheeks,
And the tears poured from her eyes,
As she played…

Silent night,
Holy night,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night,
Holy night,
Christ the savior is born,
Christ the savior is born.

Her fingers shook nervously,
As fear struck her heart,
Mentally, she prayed to God,
Saying, "Please set me apart."

And the cold air kissed her cheeks,
And the tears poured from her eyes,
As she played…

Silent night,
Holy night,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night,
Holy night,
Christ the savior is born,
Christ the savior is born.

Silent night,
Holy night,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night,
Holy night,
Christ the savior is born,
Christ the savior is born.

"Oh Lord, Please set me apart."
