"Tilted Cross of the Mountain"
White cross standing alone-
A marker of faith on the side of the road.
To signify those who have died-
Gleaming in the sun, silver and white.
Weather and time tug on this symbol so strong-
Pulling on its out-stretched arms towards the dusty ground.
Within the desert, just beyond the snow,
Stands that memorial,
Made to guard the travelers on the road.
Titled cross on the mountains,
Faith and Hope pass you on the highway,
Again and again…

I wrote this while traveling to California. In the Mojave Desert stands a lone white cross, somewhat tilted, on top of a dusty rocky hill right beside the highway. The eastern side of the hill was covered in snow; the western side (which had the cross on it) was completely bare…
