Forest

A picture-perfect forest, leaves painted green

A butterfly sits on a leaf, surveying the scene

Up in a tree, a squirrel sleeps

By the river, a willow weeps

Birds flutter in and out, building their nests

Whether the eggs will survive is nature's great test

It's so quiet and peaceful here

These animals live free of fear

But all the security is not to last

Danger will come before much time has passed

A jaguar prowls, stalking his prey

He growls in rage as the bird flies away

His nose catches the scent of something more

The animals don't know what danger's in store

The jaguar's roar echoes throughout the clearing

They are not sure what they are hearing

He bursts in and his fangs are dripping

The terror is real, the fear is gripping

The tiny butterfly closes her eyes

She can't bear to watch this kind of surprise

A picture-perfect forest, leaves painted green

A butterfly sits on a leaf, surveying the scene

A squirrel weeps for his lost mate

And his little baby, who the creature ate

A willow lies fallen on its side

Sheltering those who tried to hide

Two birds perch silently by their broken nest

Their eggs did not pass nature's test

Once again, it's quiet and peaceful here

But the animals now live in fear
