"I'm excited, aren't you?" the black-haired humanoid summon poked the blue-skinned Ice Fey next to her. The Ice Fey was identical to every other ice Fey, resembling a small, delicate, exquisite individual with blue skin, ice-crystal eyes, and ice-colored hair. She leaned over a parchment, reading and memorizing.
"Mmhmm."
"We're getting our Identities today!" the girl-like summon exclaimed again.
"That's nice! I'm excited too! Now can you please be silent?"
"What do you think your name's going to be? Icy? Feya?"
The blue-skinned tic under the Ice Fey's left eye was increasing with alarming speed. Tic. Tic. Twitch. Twitch. Still, she retained the characteristic Ice Fey coolness.
"Well? I think my name's going to be something fierce, like Ragnarok, or Avalon, or something from the human legends!" The little summon was identical to a young six-year old human child with pale skin and black hair and deep brown eyes.
"Both those names are taken up already by Caliber Ten summons! Shut up!" the six-year-old Ice Fey cried.
"Well, I want something that my summoners can call upon, and make the enemies shake in terror. Do you think that Shiva's a nice name?" the little summon asked eagerly, oblivious to the growing tic under the Ice Fey's eye.
"The name Shiva's already taken!" The tic grew faster.
"How about Rusake?"
"Rusake's already Rusake! Please, I'm trying to memorize my words!"
"You have your words?" The girl-like summon leaned over, ignoring the chilling aura of the Ice Fey.
The Ice Fey snapped her fangs out. "Get away from me!"
The human-like summon sat back and leaned to the other side, where a dragon lay. "Hello, do you have your name yet?"
The dragon blinked his huge amber eyes. "Sorry?"
"Do you have you name yet?"
The black-scaled dragon sighed, blowing out wisps of smoke. "I'm in your age-group, remember? You stepped on my wings."
"Oh yeah. What do you want your name to be?" the little girl-like creature asked.
"The humans chose it for us, remember?"
"Yes, but what do you want your name to be?"
"I don't really know. Can you please be quiet? I'm studying my lines." The dragon gestured to the parchment on the grass.
The black-haired summon leaned back over to the Ice Fey. "What do you think your name's going to be?" she asked.
The Ice Fey had had enough. "Shut your trap!" she bellowed.
"What did you just say?" The girl-like creature stood, long black hair flapping in the slight breeze. The Ice Fey stood up.
"I said, SHUT YOUR TRAP! I need to concentrate!"
"Well, you need to be more polite!" she screamed back and swung a fist.
"You started the fight with an Ice Fey, didn't you?" the dragon next to her asked. Now all the young, nameless summons were lined up against a great stone human-looking wall outside a mountain.
"Yes, I did, and I'm proud of it!" she snapped fiercely. They were lining up to receive their Identities, which humans could summon them by.
The dragon stared for a moment. "Did you see the brawl between an angry Ifrit and the harpy yesterday?"
"Sure did. They kicked butt!" she exclaimed, punching the air.
The dragon's golden eyes flashed. "Don't use that phrase! You know it's against the Code of Summons to use a human phrase or imitate a human in any manner!"
"But we're going it right now by talking! And the humans depend on us to do everything-"
The dragon's claws whistled through the air. "The Code says what the Code says. You know the consequences of breaking the Code."
"Yes, every summon knows that!"
"And no one, not a soul," the dragon said in a low voice.
"-Ever, ever, returns," they both finished.
She started giggling but stopped when the huge doors to the chamber opened, and a giant, shaggy-furred wolf strode out proudly.
"Young summons, this will be one of the biggest days in your lives," the wolf roared. The girl-like summon saluted.
"This," the great wolf continued, "is the day in which you will receive your Identities. Our master humans will call upon you for your service with your name."
